Red face So When Is It Safe?

We are mathematically at this point out of any playoff contention.
Kellen Clemens may or may not be the future starting QB for the Jets.
The offense sucks and can't hold the pocket.
The defense sucks and can't sack a potato.

So, when is it safe to root for the team to continue a losing streak in order to get a top 5 first round draft pick in 2008? Your thoughts?

I think that will become evident when the time is right. IMO, it's not time yet!

Why would you root for a top 5 draft pick?

It's not like the Jets are 1 player away from the Super Bowl.

My hope is to see development weekly on both sides....while losing. Play the kids and when Harris or Revis blow a coverage, its a TD - they wont forget. Have Kellen toss TD's and low pick numbers, but have McCarriens drop the first down passes too.

No more speecial teams TDs too - keep Leon healthy.

BE AFRAID - Penny's last official act was getting Coles killed - this will hurt Kellen.

it's not about the 1 player - it's about insurance against trading two firsts and a fourth for #4 overall...

I'm hoping we go 4-4 or 3-5 in the second half. I'd rather have an 8-12 pick and nothave to pay all that guaranteed money to an unproven commodity.

Can't believe the league and the players union can't get an NBA system in place for draft picks, more money for proven vets....the bonus money for the top rookies is just absurd.

If the Jets do land a top 5 pick, they would be complete idiots for not trading down for a late 1st/early 2nd and more importantly, a #1 pick in 2008.

    exactly.

i think a fan of a team should never ever root for their team to lose, no matter the circumstance.

if you're team is losing 10-12+ games in a season, like the jets are, getting the #3 overall, vs the #12 overall pick in the draft isn't going to all of a sudden make your team a playoff contender.

i'd rather my team go 6-10 and show that they are competitive, than lose the last 5 games of the season, so they move up a few spots in the draft.

You might not like his team but he is 100% right about this. You get much better value for picks in the mid to late 1st round and picking up extras by trading there is the way to go.

I never root for a loss.
Having a top pick is no guarantee of anything.

i agree in principle, but it also depends on whether clemens shows enough to be your 2008 starting QB.

What the hell is so good about extra "picks"?

It's the value that is important, not the total number.

    What would you rather have? A late 1st/early 2nd and a 2008 #1, or 6 5th rounders and 7 6th rounders?

And that is exactly why that #1 pick in 2009 would be the Jets ace in the hole.

2008 is the next draft - i thought your trade scnario meant to say a low 1st/high second and a 2009 #1.
