First off let me say I'm not trying to make an attack or question his football knowledge, I've just noticed that a lot of people are on the Derek Anderson train and he was the first person that I noticed who was supporting the notion that is top QB. I remember certain instances in the past where he has either been completely wrong or perhaps been a bit ambitious with his predictions.
Players that I recall him hyping before or shortly after the draft:
Philip Rivers- I remember him declaring Rivers as the best quarterback in the draft, much better than Big Ben and slightly better then Elisha.
Derrick Strait - Called him a shut down corner.
Randy Starks - For one reason or another he absolutely loved this guy.
My personal fav was his comparison of Mike Williams to Lawrence Taylor.
We had just signed Jmac that offseason and GJ&H stated that a player like Williams would justify switching the offense to a base 3 wide out formation much like the Giants switched their defense to better suit Lawrence Taylor his rookie season.
First off, when you're a guy like Ham that puts himself out there on evaluating and talking about so many players you are likely to be wrong a time or two...
with that said, my all time favorite of his muffs would have to be Rashaun Woods. i think in the same class as Roy Williams. he was absolutely in love with this kid. The second coming of Jerry Rice is what you would think he was gonna be.
GJ&H knows his stuff. He's had hits and misses just like the rest of us.
Agreed, and he's had so many more hits than misses over the years. Not to mention his power rankings are required reading.
As a Pats fan, my favorite miss though was his insistence that letting Vinatieri walk in free agency would come back to haunt the team. The Ghost has been money so far and routinely boots the ball in the end zone on kickoffs. Vinatieri, on the other hand, is lucky to get his kickoffs inside the 10 and is now missing chip shots in the clutch.
When it comes to the draft, I leave that up to others with good knowledge of the situation. Rutgers, GJ&H, Come back to MY, etc., all know more about it than I do. I just do not follow the college game closely enough.
When it comes to the pros and in particular the JETS, I let common sense do my thinking for me. There's no one person on this site who has molded my opinions to some sort of conformity. I make my own opinions.
And just like everyone else, I hit and miss on my opinions.
All this does is confirm I'm human, just like everyone else.......
