Yearly salaries mean dick, it could simply just be a product of the way the contract is structured. One year a guy makes $8.6 million, the next he'll make $1.6 million.

    Calm down guys, sheesh.

Kerry Rhodes is the man. 8th lowest paid and arguably the best player on the team with no complaints.

those are odd numbers. I think they refer to total compensation (e.g. salary and bonuses) which, for thomas, did equal $8.5894 in 2006.

In any event, those compensation numbers have no direct bearing on the cap number, and should interest only Woody Johnson, who's being asked to lay out the cash.

In terms of the cap, the Jets have just under $3.3M in space

And you expect me to take this list seriously?
Yearly salaries mean dick, it could simply just be a product of the way the contract is structured. One year a guy makes $8.6 million, the next he'll make $1.6 million.

    Calm down guys, sheesh.
Exactly. Some people.

The rookie pool, money that is set aside specifically for draft picks. Their salaries are not included in the salary cap in this season.
In terms of the cap, the Jets have just under $3.3M in space
I doubt it. Link?

Thats about where the team is. Depends on the Frank contract. Rumor was 1.65 million. If thats true we are right at 3 million. I think that number is high(Tony Richardson was reported to be just under 2 million at first), but right now there is no way to get any idea one way or the other on Franks.

Anyway if anyone is interested Im working on putting together a site for the Jets on the cap. Its a work in progress, but the address is www.nyjetscap.com. To the best of my knowledge the numbers I have are pretty close to what has been reported online by a few different people as to overall cap space for the squad.

The big thing for the team is moving Robertson off the team. He cant be on the team if they want the space to do anything else.

    Hey Jason, nice site.

I can see why everyone is waiting till we cut DRob.

He can save us nearly 8 1/2 mil in cap space.

I also can't see why Coles is :steamin:. He's the 3rd highest salary on the team for this year.

Coles wants long-term security. He knows it's the end of the line for him and this is the last time he can haggle before his bargaining ability is all gone. If I were him, I would have taken the offer to guarantee his remaining contract and been happy with it.

I agree, he's probably only a concussion away from retirement.

The only way the Jets will give him an extension(at least if I was running things) will be one laced with lots and lots of incentives. That way, if he doesn't last, they won't get stuck holding the bag.

You can doubt it, but the numbers are solid. There's no link, but I've calculated the Jets cap based on really solid information, and I'm 100% confident it's correct. The Jets had roughly $4.5M before they signed Bubba Franks for $1.65M. Because of the top-51 rule, his salary replaces the roughly $350k salary of the 51st guy on the roster.

    $4.5M +$350k -$1.65M=$3.2M

If you want the exact number, it's actually $3,272,508 give or take a couple of bucks.

Regarding money for signing rookies: the rookie cap does count against this year's cap -- it's more of a cap within a cap than anything else, and designates how much total money a team is allowed devoting to its rookies.

the Jets rookie cap for this year will likely be in the $3.5-4M range this year. The team will clear up the money
