    Mets 1B

This had me thinking the other day, so i figured id get some feedback.

I dont see Delgado back next year (his contract is up, and his production is dwindling), and we dont have the 1B of the future in the minors so who do you want at first in 2009?

    First basemen
    Ben Broussard (32)
    Sean Casey (34)
    Tony Clark (37)
    Carlos Delgado (37) - $16MM mutual option for '09 with a $4MM buyout
    Nomar Garciaparra (35)
    Jason Giambi (38) - $22MM club option for '09 with a $5MM buyout
    Scott Hatteberg (39)
    Eric Hinske (31)
    Doug Mientkiewicz (35)
    Kevin Millar (37)
    Richie Sexson (34)
    Mark Teixeira (29) <---my pick

you can find all FA here:

Mark Teix says, "Thank you Miguel".

I'm hoping Michel Abreu picks up where he left off two years ago at Bing.

Teixeira would be nice, but I don't see them being quite so willing to dish out another 100 million dollar contract right away. I would see what it would take to get Adam Dunn in Free Agency (Started 82 G at 1B in his career) although that probably won't be much better. If not I'd probably look to see what is available through the trade market. I wouldn't mind the X-Man as a Stop Gap until one of our in-house options proves to be ready.

I'm not quite as high on Abreu as I was before he hit .118 this Spring (So far), especially considering he's already 33 years old. Sure, maybe he has another nice year in Bingo, but until he proves to be able to hit ML pitching I'm not getting my hopes up.

why not? he would make the same thing delgado is making....esp going into the new stadium i think the mets wont be satisfied with a stop gap 1B.

You're gonna need some money to pay the rest of your team as well.

I like Dunn myself, who probably will get a bit undervalued in this market.
