The Rays are pathetic, simply pathetic

Rays reassigned 3B Evan Longoria and SS Reid Brignac to Triple-A Durham.
As would most teams put into the same situation, the Rays are lying and saying it's not about the money. But that's the only reason not to go with Longoria right now. It is a good one: if he's kept down for two months, not only will he not be a free agent until after 2014, but he won't be arbitration eligible until after 2011. Still, the Rays have handled this badly from the start.
This is from rotoworld and when I saw that Evan was going to AAA, that was the immediate thing that popped into my head, service time, how pathetic.

That's a joke. Great message to send to your young team.

    They need to start contracting.

The Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers and the rest of the MLB share revenue with an organization that doesn't care about winning.

He'll be back up in a month. It's the right move for the organization.

The Rays don't belong in the majors. Is there a min that a team has to spend?

They should get Wade Boggs to come out of retirement.

Longoria was having a good spring. What a shame!

Meanwhile, the Rays farm system (specifically their pitching) is absolutely stacked. They have 4 top pitching prospects waiting to crack the rotation. With Longoria and Brigniac as well, they could be the class of the league in a few years.

Or they could just F' it up again.

They ahve done this with ever prospect they have ever had. No surprise, thy aren't going to "win" this year so why use up his eligibility?

It will be more like two months before he is up. I would be shocked if it is before Memorial Day. Teams do it all the time and it is probably the right thing for the organization, but what kind of message does it send to the fans. They actually had some juice entering a season for a change and he was a big reason why. Milwaukee did it last year with Ryan Braun, but at least they had a legitimate player in front of him at third where you could make an argument. TB has Willie Aybar and Eric Hinske.

Teams do this all the time - especially ones that need to stretch out the most productive years that they can before the player exhausts his arbitration years and goes somewhere else for a big contract.

It would only have taken them at least 10 years to get to .500

That's a good attitude for a MLB team.
