Perez likely to pitch Home Opener, Figueroa likely to be called up

Willie leaning toward Perez for Opening Day start

Willie Randolph said he’s leaning toward giving Oliver Perez the start in Tuesday’s home opener against the Phillies, since Perez would be pitching with an extra day of rest anyway. The manager suspects Nelson Figueroa would get a start that weekend against the Brewers when the Mets need a fifth starter, since Randolph prefers leaving Jorge Sosa in his bullpen role.

    4/05 - Pelfrey
    4/06 - Santana

Cerrone has something that would be really bad.

    ...posted by Matthew Cerrone...

According to SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt, the Mets have placed Pedro Martinez on the 15–day disabled list, while activating Nelson Figueroa from Triple-A New Orleans.

…though the Mets have not yet made an official announcement about pedro’s MRI, which occured around 5 pm, i have reason to believe it will be categorized as a slight tear, which is not good…my guess is that he’ll need to be off his feet for a few weeks, at which point he can then start a rehab program…

Also, Willie Randolph told reporters that he may choose to pitch Oliver Perez on Tuesday, in the home opener, with Figueroa getting a start later in the week against the Brewers.

To hear more from Burkhardt, be sure to check out ‘s Pre-Game Show starting at 6:30 pm.

    Nah.

UPDATE II: Change of plans for the Mets: It’s John Maine and Johan Santana here against the Braves. Against the Phillies it’ll be Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey and Maine.

Santana would open the Brewers series, probably followed by Nelson Figueroa.
    From Adam Rubin's blog.

    So we're looking at...

    4/5 Maine
    4/6 Santana
    4/7 Off
    4/8 Perez
    4/9 Pelfrey
    4/10 Maine
    4/11 Santana
    4/12 Figueroa
    4/13 Perez

Because you went to the 5th game after an Off Day, and they're going to put off starting him as long as possible so by default he'd almost pitch that game.

Your best hope is one of the 4 games after the Off Day gets rained out, as then everyone would likely be pushed back a day....or they could just push Pelfrey back

Mets are in danger of raining out again today. That would mean Maine would start tomorrow (Sunday), the Mets would have off on Monday, and I would get to see Santana in the home opener!

Maybe your right. And that would be just as cool (an early season double header) so I'd be perfectly cool with that and then Ollie on the home opener.
