Red Sox vs. Yankees, position by position

I must say Boston fans are insane after seeing the results of this poll (see link) but here is my take, I think it is objective.

    http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal...nks_breakdown/

I chose based on who I would prefer to have on my team THIS YEAR. My preference is in bold. The boston.com poll included the choice of "Tossup" so I will to.

Catcher: Varitek Vs Posada or Tossup
1B: Youkilis vs Giambi or Tossup
2B: Pedroia vs Cano or Tossup
SS: Lugo vs Jeter or Tossup
3B: Lowell vs ARod or Tossup
LF: Manny vs Damon or Tossup
CF: Ellsbury/Crisp vs Melky or Tossup
RF: Drew vs Abreu or Tossup
DH: Ortiz vs Matsui or Tossup
Bench: Boston vs NY or Tossup
#1 Starter: Beckett vs Wang or Tossup
#2 Starter: Dice K vs Pettitte or Tossup
#3 Starter: Wakefield vs Hughes or Tossup
#4 Starter: Lester vs Moose or Tossup
#5 Starter: Buchholz vs Kennedy or Tossup
Secondary Setup: Delcarmen vs Hawkins or Tossup
Primary Setup: Okajima vs Joba or Tossup
Closers: Papelbon vs Mariano or Tossup
Managers: Francona vs Girardi or Tossup

I just think this year Girardi is what the Yankees need. Just my opinion.

You're on CRACK if you'd take Mariano over Papelbon, even if they both cost the same. Factoring in their costs, that pick is simply not rational. Calling Girardi and Francona a tossup is a bit of a stretch, IMO.

Otherwise, I thik you did a good job.

Ha. Maybe I am on crack but when Mo comes out I have all the confidence in the world in him. Obviously I'd take Papelbon long term but this year I think Mo will do just as well.

Maybe it is a stretch to say manager is a tossup but if Torre was still here I wouldn't take him over Francona just because he had won more world series. While it is important it is not the determining factor, at least not to me. That is why I said tossup.

lol. Why bother having a poll, the voters clearly are incapable of objectivity.

Have you noticed the sitatuions Hawkins gas been used in? He isn't a big part of our bullpen.

    Mariano
    Joba
    Bruney
    Ohlendorf
    Farnsworth

You must be high. Buchholz and Hughes is a tossup, he blows Kennedy away. Francona has 2 WS rings, and Girardi MIGHT be a good manager(and im a big Girardi fan).

All rookies are tossups. Are you high?

Come on now... Kennedy can't come close to Buchholz, for goodness sakes, he threw a no hitter last year.

Tried to not be bias but here's mine. I tried to stay away from tossups...

Catcher: Varitek Vs Posada or Tossup
1B: Youkilis vs Giambi or Tossup
2B: Pedroia vs Cano or Tossup
SS: Lugo vs Jeter or Tossup

Managers: Francona vs Girardi or Tossup

CF was a tough one for me, I would easily take Melky over Crisp, I'm gonna have to see more of the same from Ellsbury for him win that catorgory.

Mussina vs Lester is a tossup because every time Mussina is on the mound he's a tossup. And I just haven't seen Lester pitch too many times to sway it his way.

And how am I suppose to take Papelbon over Moe?

Do you want me to give you a long list of pitchers who threw a no hitter who have had horrible careers?

That's exactly how i selected. And Sean Ryan is correct on Hawkins. He's gotten mop-up duty to get confidence. Our Bullpen set-up:

    1) Mariano
    2) Joba
    3) Bruney
    4) Ohlendorf
    5) Farnsworth
    6) Hawkins.

He's getting his claim to fame through that, but come on Sean, Buchholz is better than Kennedy.

Of course he is, long term.

    Right now they are tossups.

    Hughes isn't a rookie.

    You lose.

I don't agree with Dice K over Pettitte. That's a toss up for the Sox at best. I would take Pettitte.
