(AP) U.S. singer Alicia Keys performs in Madrid, March 17, 2008. There's another side to Alicia Keys:...

NEW YORK (AP) - There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.

The multiplatinum songstress behind the hits "Fallin'" and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which sold millions.
I think he just posted it as another example of the lunacy in Hollywood.

But, since you brought it up, I do believe she is an Obama supporter.

And when precisely did Alicia Keys become a political pundit? I might just as well quote the local dog-catcher, as if that means something significant. Today seems to be a day for really dumb threads.

Simple nickname for a truly simple poster.
And when precisely did Alicia Keys become a political pundit?
The second she decided to be one, just like any famous influential celebrity.
I might just as well quote the local dog-catcher, as if that means something significant.
Why? Did the dogcatcher sell a few million albums, have millions of fans, have reporters following their every move and people across the country who take their political views from what he says?

Oh, no? Well, maybe that WAS a silly comparison then, eh?

No wonder we have a "permanent disconnect" when you continue to post sillyness like this.

Famous people have fans. Fans they often have far too much inflence over. If you think what they say and what they think carries no meaning, you are more ill informed than I thought possible.

She's a stupid singer. If stupid people listen to her, who can help that? Why do we care? I wonder who Wayne Newton is voting for?

Re the permanent disconnect, I noticed you didn't respond to the budget issue. I wonder why...

I bet you wonder alot of things. You seem the type.

As to why I didn't answer, it's rather simple. I've come to see that you are one of those "You just don't understand what I mean, ((Insert insult here))" kind of posters. You are apparently never wrong, nor do you ever fail to make your case in a way that anyone but the most retarded fool could misunderstand. No, instead when you compare say, Libertarians to Child Rapists, it is always the ignorance of the READER at fault, and never your own failings or biases at play.

In my experience here, there is little to be gained responding to you too much, since (to quote Full Metal Jacket) "Any answer I give will be wrong".

So to put you at ease over that other thread, here you go "You're right".

I'm sure you feel much better now. I know I do.

Are Tiger and Hines Ward the only half black celeb that haven't turned on their non black side? I honestly think Keys is doing it just see if it will help her sell more records (not that she needs any help), K West started a great no trend.

If you'll go back to the libertarian thread, you'll see that when Jet5ever clarified the problem, I was more than willing to acknowledge my mistake in posting the way I did. I got it, and I said so. Never did I compare libertarians to child rapists, which is just a disingenuous distortion of what I was getting at, which is the dilemma of parental rights. I'll take the blame for using a bad title. No problem. How about occasionally giving me the benefit of a doubt that I'm not some "crypto-socialist" looking to trap unsuspecting libertarians. That's just not what I'm about. Can't say it any more clearly.

Re the budget issue, another dilemma remains: how does one achieve what you are arguing for, given that a massive part of the budget is tied up in programs that are politically untouchable. That's always been the problem. Welfare is a strawman in the federal debate. It is certainly a more serious issue at the state level. A lot of programs are targeted toward the largest population of poor in our country: children. Sadly, most of the programs have been less than successful in creating opportunity for those children to escape the vicious cycle of poverty. And a good part of the reason for that is that as long as the parent remain poor and uneducated, the state will have limited influence on the path those children take... enter the dilemma of family preservation, parental rights, ethnic/religious identity, etc. I don't know what the answer is, but I can't see more of the same or drastic withdrawal of services as solutions. It sort of like Iraq: we may not want to be where we are, but we can't turn the clock back either. New ideas are needed.
