Thread: The Official All Time Draft Thread

  1. #41
Eusebio of Portugal is my pick

Generally rated in the top 10 or 15 of all time...incredible speed, deadly shot. The Black Panther is obviously a forward in my squad.

  2. #42
Raoul PM'ed me his next two picks. Here's the first one:

    Lothar Mathaus

  3. #43
And my next pick, my favorite player on my favorite squad, and one of the greatest defenders of all time...

    Paolo Maldini

  4. #44
    And Raoul's next pick...

    Romario

I'm going to need some time to research my 3rd pick, it will be upcoming

  5. #45
    And my pick...

    Gheorghe Hagi

Black Death is OTC. No rush, since I have no idea what time it is in Australia

    P*ssed Romario is gone

Since Paulie has started the run on defenders, and now has the left back position covered, I will go for the man who I consider as the greatest centre half to have ever played the game....

    Franco Baresi

Baresi was named player of the year in Serie A in 1990 - at a time when the Italian league reigned supreme as the greatest in the world and had the greatest players - an unheard of accolade for a defender. He was the most complete pure defender ever to have played the game - his trophy list with AC Milan is incredible, including three Champions League trophies.

He was the ultimate defender in the best league in the world which was also very defensively minded.

A legendary player who I am now pleased to have added to my squad.

Awesome player. Hated this guy forever. No reason in particular.

Your team is looking sick so far.

Have to repay the compliment - you took Romario right from under my nose - I was hoping to pair him up with Eusebio, as I think their qualities would be awesome together (look at me, talking like these players are going to play in a team together ). However, it's a blessing in disguise - Baresi was an incredible player, and with some of the attacking talent taken in the draft already you have to have a great defender to cope with them (there I go again ) I think it's obvious that the attacking talent will be drafted quicker than the defensive talent, but when there is a Baresi about you just have to go and draft him ASAP.

Like you I was looking at the way the draft was falling and thinking: "Is Zizou going to fall all the way to me?", and then Woody stepped in.

Don't think anyone can complain with their picks at this stage - I'm taking a BPA right now, but have my eye on formations and want to fill particular holes as well. For example, Paulie took the no. 1 left back on my list - so at some stage I'll have to go to my no. 2 left back or if he's gone the next one etc.

This post probably should have gone in the discussion thread, but oh, well.

Edit: I won't be online again for at least 8 hours. Sleep time.

    Plays for Barcelona .

Though he'll most likely always be remembered as a Gunner.

Cim Bom's pick is FW - Gerhard "Gerd" Müller

He didn't look the part but he was the most prolific German striker ever with an unreal 68 goals in 62 matches. He's also only behind Pele and Romario on the all time scorers list. Here's his unbeliavable numbers:
