    Favre to Jets "ABSOLUTELY DEAD"

Favre to Jets is ``absolutely dead''

Brett Favre to the Jets? Fuhgeddaboudit.

According to someone with knowledge of the talks between the Jets, Packers and Favre's representatives, all chances of a deal between the Packers and Jets are ``absolutely dead.''

In fact, the person said chances of a deal were really remote in the first place but the Jets had to do their due diligence.

That person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he's not authorized by the Jets, Packers or Favre to speak on their behalf, said that the Jets feel the only reason the issue came up is because the Packers and the Favre Camp are trying to drum up interest for the 38-year-old quarterback and they leaked the information to the media.

That makes sense because while Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum refused to confirm or deny if the Jets seeked and received permission to speak with Favre, quarterback Chad Pennington said on Friday that Tannenbaum told him the Packers called the Jets.

Now, with the Favre out of the picture, the Jets will go into the season with either Pennington or Kellen Clemens as their starting quarterback.

    Brett Favre-QB- Packers Jul. 26 - 12:54 pm et

Though the Bucs deny that they've spoken to the Packers about Brett Favre, the Jets have held preliminary trade discussions with Green Bay.
The Jets and Packers have talked about potential draft-pick compensation and Favre's contract status. The Packers then suggested that the Jets talk to Favre to gauge his interest, but the team hadn't contacted him as of Friday night. Despite the Bucs denials, head coach Jon Gruden would not say unequivocally that the team had no interest in Favre.

In the course of 20 minutes we have one Journalist inferring the Jets are only moments away from a blockbuster announcement regarding the acquisition of Brett Favre, and another Journalist saying Favre to the Jets is dead

    I'm so confused

    Good.

If true then nobody can accuse the front office of not even listening to what The Packers and Favre have to say (which is what I thought was happening when news first broke). Good job passing on this particular black hole. Once again "if true"

If the Packers called the Jets to offer Brett Favre, and the Jets turned them down, Tannenbaum and Mangini need to be fired. And they will be, after another 4-12 type season.

he actually has a source. leberfeld was just quoting some guy who is cleaning the toilets in the building and who has been told to do some extra hours which obviously means the jets will trade for favre

And the "big announcement by the Jets" from the other thread hasn't necessarily been called off...

Chad may have just become a whole lot more than Mangina's starting QB this season

The last two days have been concrete proof as to why the American sports media f-cking sucks.
