    Mets get Luis Ayal

METS ACQUIRE RELIEVER LUIS AYALA FROM WASHINGTON

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 17, 2008 - The New York Mets announced today they have acquired righthanded relief pitcher Luis Ayala from the Washington Nationals in exchange for a player to be named later. Ayala will wear #56 and will be available for tomorrow's game at Pittsburgh. In order to make room on the Mets 40-man roster, New York transferred outfielder Moises Alou to the 60-Day Disabled List.

***Actually shortstop Anderson Hernandez is the player going back to Washington

This is probably a result of the setback for Wagner...let's hope it helps.

I smell another Omar heist in the making. Ayala has been pretty great over his career and has had a bad year on a team going absolutely nowhere. I take a gamble on this every time, not to mention we are giving away essentially nothing as Anderson Hernandez clearly has no place on this team. He had his shots. There is absolutely no reason to not love this move. Nothing to lose everything to gain.

    Omar being Omar.
