WEC 36 at the Hard Rock, lookin good

Official "WEC 36: Faber vs. Brown" fight card revealed
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Aug 20, 2008 at 6:25 pm ET

World Extreme Cagefighting today revealed its entire Sept. 10 fight card, which features WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber (21-1) vs. challenger Mike Brown (15-4) in the night's main event.

Also on tap for the event is a middleweight championship rematch bout between title-holder Paulo Filho (16-0) and Chael Sonnen (22-9-1), and an intriguing featherweight fight between Leonard Garcia (11-3) and former top contender Jens Pulver (22-9-1).

WEC 36, which airs live on Versus, takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

Faber, who recently scored a unanimous-decision victory over Jens Pulver in perhaps the biggest WEC event to date, picked up his fifth successful title defense since winning the WEC belt in March 2006. He also picked up his 13th consecutive win with the win. His opponent Brown, an American Top Team fighter, will go for his eighth straight victory.

Filho, who recently underwent a substance-abuse recovery program, originally met Sonnen in December. The title fight ended in controversy when Sonnen claimed he never verbally tapped from an arm-bar, though the referee claimed he did. The two fighters were then scheduled to rematch in March, but the 30-year-old Filho elected to withdraw from the event due to "personal reasons." He later shared that he was suffering from depression and chemical-dependency issues.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the Garcia-Pulver bout in July when Garcia said he had agreed to the meeting with the former UFC champ. Garcia will fight for the first time since a February TKO victory over Hiroyuki Takaya. Soon after the win, the former UFC fighter was arrested for alleged involvement in a Texas-based drug ring. Garcia, who continually maintained that he was simply the victim of guilt by association, was recently cleared of all pending federal charges.
