The not-really-official "How is your country doing in WC Qualifying?" thread

Costa Rica breezed through the initial group stage, perfect so far with 15 points in 5 games. 1 game left, at El Salvador, but it's completely meaningless since both teams are through to the next phase.

it was a very easy group though, should be a lot tougher in CONCACAF's Final Six.

    Meh...4 points through 3 games.

We started with a horrible loss to Austria (Yes Austria, possibly the worst team in the last Euro). Then beat Serbia and an encouraging draw in Romania.

Our defense is absolutely horrendous. The team is showing some spine by coming back into games, but still highly suspicious overall.

We beat Armenia away, Bosnia at home then drew with Belgium at home and Estonia away.

We did have a ton of injuries and were very unlucky but still the draw away at Estonia is inexcusable. But we do this kind of crap all the time we were the team San Marino scored its first international goal against and if I remember right got its first draw against, in the qualifying round for the last Euros we drew with Malta... We just can't beat the teams other people score 7-8 against I have no idea why...

This is the table as it stands now:

    Spain 12
    Turkey8
    Belgium7
    Bosnia-Herzegovina6
    Estonia1
    Armenia0

Raoul and Turk -- the damn European qualifiers confuse the hell out of me... how many move on from each group? is this the final stage of qualifying, or is there another round?

Italy is in a very weak Group, and they aren't doing spectacularly:

    - A nil-nil draw to Bulgaria
    - 2-0 over Georgia
    - 1-2 Loss from Cyprus
    - 2-1 win over Montenegro

America was rocking the **** until they clinched.

Lost to Trinidad 2-1 with the kids on the field.

They should advance out of CONCACAF easily.

right now, it looks as though the final 6 in CONCACAF will be:

already clinched: USA, Costa Rica, El Salvador

virtually clinched: Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago

the toss-up is Honduras and Jamaica, which should be pretty interesting. Jamaica closes at home vs. a weak Canadian team, while Honduras hosts Mexico, who is coming off two bad results (loss to Jamaica, draw vs. Canada).

i'm thinking Mexico takes out their frustration on Honduras, paving the way for Jamaica to steal the last spot in qualifying.

I guess it's confusing because there are so many.

First 2 qualify directly for the WC.

Then there's a sort direct elimination round for the best 3rd place finishers (I don't know how many).

Dates are set for CONCACAF's Hexagonal

it's looking like the Final 6 will be:

Costa Rica, USA, El Salvador, Mexico*, Jamaica* and Trinidad & Tobago* (the last 3 pending final game)

    The dates are set:

    Match 1 - Feb. 11
    Match 2 - Mar. 28
    Match 3 - Apr. 1
    Match 4 - Jun. 6
    Match 5 - Jun. 10
    Match 6 - Aug. 12
    Match 7 - Sep. 5
    Match 8 - Sep. 9
    Match 9 - Oct. 10
    Match 10 - Oct. 14

the Top 3 go through automatically (probably USA, Mexico, and hopefully CR)

4th place moves on to a two-match playoff against the 5th plance from CONMEBOL:

    Playoff vs. Conmebol 5th
    1st Leg (TBD) - Nov. 14
    2nd Leg (TBD) - Nov. 18

This is going to be fun. This is when all the games are going to be hard fought close matches. I think US, Mexico, and Costa Rica will be the 3, with El Salvador being the 4th to play the conmebol 5th seed.

I can only imagine the pressure Sven-Goran Eriksson is feeling right about now in Mexico.

This 4th round is going to be as exciting as it ever has been. We all know US, Mexico and Costa Rica are the top dogs. All the teams are quality. Honduras is a very underrated team.

We've won 3 from 3 (or 4 from 4?) in qualifying - we have a reasonably **** squad though, even if we make the Cup we'll not go anywhere in it.

Kewell has been the best player in Turkey this year by far...He's like our Favre, most of the fans can't pronounce his name but we love him

At one stage he was one of the hottest talents in the world - he does have amazing skill. Think his hepatitis and the undiagnosed hernia he had for 18 months killed his career in England.

Edit: just watched a youtube of gala supporters trying to sing his name! See what you mean about the pronunciation.
