Delgado: "We have a GREAT team"

THIS Mets fans is PRECISELY what's wrong with our team.

The '85 Mets won 98 games, did not make the playoffs, and NEVER said they even had a good team.

Given what mets players think of themselves and what was spent on the team, is there a more underachieving team in the history of major league baseball?

    BREAK UP THIS CORE WILPONS!

No. The core is not the problem. Its the supporting cast. If he adds SP depth and quality RP including a closer to the current core, we have a WS team.
Our core of Santana/Wright/Beltran/Reyes can go toe to toe with the Phillies core of Hamels/Howard/Utley/Rollins. The difference is in the Phillies supporting staff.

Your right in comparing this situation to the 85 team, but in 85 they didnt break up the core, they addressed their shortcomings. Thats all they need to do here.

    Break up the core?????

    Are you nuts??

As other said, how bout getting the core some help??

Wright and Beltran just won another gold glove, they had great season as did reyes and Sanatan and you want to get rid of them, As for Delgado it was 8 million to keep him, because there was a 4 million buyout a trained monkey knows to resign him. Now if there is a REALLY GOOD bounty for him thenim all for moving him, if not you keep him too. How bout we get even a decent bullpen and maybe some production out the bottom of the lineup

The Mets win the Division by 5 or more games last season if they had just an average bullpen. The "core" is not the problem, Sign/Replace Perez, get a damn bullpen, and maybe a couple tweaks to the Offense/Rotation if there's enough left over (*cough*2B, 5th Starter*cough*).
