If socialism always fails how do you explain the success of China?

  3. #3
China doesnt even purport to socialism in name and doesnt have anything approaching a welfare state or the tax levels we associate with socialism. The question would be why has Scandinavia been so successful

They are succeeding, but only after they opened up capital markets.

Capital market without using true capitalism.

China succeeds because they sh!t all over their citizens and do not care what happens to them in the factories.

We buy all of their cheap poisonous crap.

    What does this mean?

By the way, the Chinese have experienced a greater standard of living increase over the last 15 years than we have.

This is true! Do you know that they execute more of their citizens each year than any country in the world? (second is Iran, btw...) or that they execute people for non-violent crimes?? B-bound, you're wrong here....they've had success at being barbaric...I wonder why we didnt't see ANY protesters during the Olympics this past summer? As Clemenza said in the first Godfather after killing Paulie..."won't see him no more".......

There is nothing "free" about their capitalism.

Greater standard of living increase, that is hysterical. You can manipulate the stats anyway you wish, but I don't see anyone moving into China to enjoy the great living standards.

Standards of living haven't increased in China over the past 15 years? Sure about that?

China is not free politically but they have significantly opened up their economy - and they have benefited greatly from it.

You mean the wonderful air they breath or how about the death vans that roll into the neighborhood?

A homeless man's standard of living increases when he gets a tarp to put over his cardboard box.

Yes, they should limit pollution but no one can deny their economic standard of living increases, which allows more people to escape poverty. The system they had before was not preferable.

I don't. In terms of political freedoms, they are a mess. I'm saying they opened up their capital markets and the people benefited from it.

They probably only did it in order to appease people of their political oppression, though.

China is currently pumping out goods for the world because they were able to build factories and get millions of cheap laborers to work in them. To do this China needed a lot of highly trained people. The main reason China (and India, too) has so many college graduates (engineers, computer scientists etc) is because of the socialist government they both had in the 1950's to the 1990's. They did not care about 'market forces' they only cared to educate millions of Chinese so that China would one day rule the world.

This is how I explain the success of China
