    2009 draft pick details

regardless of today's outcome, the jets will MISS the playoffs...with that said...here are our draft choices

    Robertson trade....nothing
    Favre trade...we lose a 3
    Kendall Trade...we gain a 4
Vilma Trade is a bit complicated...but here it goes...The Saints already owe us a 3rd, but in turn we have to give a 4th back to them....if they re-sign him, which it seems they will, before Feb 27, they will owe us a 2nd instead of the third, but they already owe the Giants a 2nd, so that pick would bump up to a 1st, so look for the Saints to re-sign Vilma, after February 27, and thus we swap a 4th for their 3rd.

so, after all of that we have a 1, 2, 3 (from the Saints), 4 (from the skins), ...not sure of 5-7th rounds....

oh, and one more thing....get rid of mangini, and get cowher

Just a note, but we actually still get the 2nd in that scenario, it gets bumped to a 1st in 2010 which then goes to the Giants.

If the compensation gets bumped to a 2nd rounder for us, then the Giants get their compensation in the form of NO's 2010 1st rounder.

(I just reread that post, it's definitely confusing. My bad.)

    Thanks...that's interesting.

But why would the Giants get the 2010 1st as opposed to us?

Shockey trade happened way after the Vilma trade. Giants just accounted for a given scenario that didn't exist when we did our deal.

In that case I'd bet that the Saints will trade down in the first for an extra second (above their own, if possible) to give the Giants (or us?)'

Can't believe they'd want to give away the 2010 first for Shockey.

At least we got some cap space out of it.

Trading draft picks for players is always a quirky thing. Going in to the 2008 season, a 1st rounder in 2010 technically would the value of a 3rd rounder in 2008. Not saying I agree with it, but that's pretty much how it's done. Value in picks drops one round per year added on.

Trading down strictly to avoid that seems like an unlikely scenario simply due to the fact that everything would have itself sorted out by mid-Feb, logic dictates that NO will have this sorted out before then and teams exchanging picks straight up at that point doesn't really happen. IMO they wouldn't force a trade including impact player(s) simply for the purpose of retaining a late 2nd.

If Tanenbaum is the GM he'll waste our draft picks on scrubs like V-Ghost, Anthony Schlegel and Eric Smith anyway.

Get me Cowher here as the Coach/GM, only way the Jets are making the playoffs next season.
