Schecter on Shmoozer: No Cowher for Jets

Adam Schecter just said on Steve Somers:
Cowher could have his pick of any NFL job for any amount of money.
He says his sources say that Cowher does NOT want to coach next year, no matter what the situation.
How reliable is this guy's reporting?
If this is true... :(

He's talking to Steve Somers. That's how reliable his sources are.

You mean Schefter?

Maybe the best insider in the business. I don't really mind though. Spagnuolo is a great fallback option. Hell, maybe even a better option period.

Didn't really expect Cowher to sign here,if it happens it would be great but if it doesn't won't be surprised.Just hope it spags.

Why is spagnuolo better? he's never even been a HC before..

We'd have been better keeping Mangini.

Adam Schefter is on the money 99.9 percent of the time.

I'm still holding out hope because none of the "experts" thought Favre would be a Jet either.

Didn't say he was better, just that he COULD be better for this team down the road.

And I'd easily take Spags over Mangini. Atleast we know Spags comes from the Jim Johnson school of putting the QB on his ass.

Favre didn't want to be a Jet, but Tannenbaum did a great job selling him on the idea of being a Jet (hard to believe after hearing his public speaking skills on the WFAN today). Maybe Cowher might change his mind about coaching after he gets the full court press from the Jets and sees their training facilities, etc.

Does not "want" to coach is much different than "won't" coach. The wording still leaves it wide open. Enough money may make him "want" to coach next year.

No more retreads, rookies or college coaches. Look for young proven successful coachs. Gruden would be a thought or someone like him.

Enough of this nonsense about having to hire someone with head coaching experience. You want someone who is smart and has the respect of his players, with solid experience as a NFL coach. Spagnuolo fits that description. Rex Ryan even more so. These guys have clearly demonstrated they know their stuff on the playing field and their players love them. Oh, and they both have Super Bowl rings.

Are you kidding me comparing Mangini to these two guys? Mangini had one year as Patriots DC and four years as a defensive back coach when he was hired by the Jets. In his sole year as DC, Bellicheck had to take over the defense from him.

Spagnuolo, by comparison, is 49 years old and has spent half his life coaching in college and the pros. Ryan could write books about how to run an NFL defense.

Better question is, if you don't want a retread, a rookie, or a college coach....then how the hell will you ever fill the HC vacancy?

I hope this is not true but then..

why did Cowher say that he is not interested in the BROWNS job, instead of saying, "Im not intersted in ANY coaching job"?

If he was definitely not coming back this year, then why no statement from him, after the news broke all day regarding him being a possible replacement to mangini?

I am trying to be positive guys.
