It's funny. I just moved from Montclair to Madison, CT. The place started to become way too violent for my wife and kids. A brutal murder down the street, a rape, drug trafficking at the middle school. Did I mention the highest property taxes in the country? $16,000 for a quarter of an acre. I don't know why, but everyone seems to ignore these major issues because it does have it's good points. The food, Osteria Giotto, the bakeries, etc. There are plenty of places that are much more beautiful (see Madison for example). It's appeal is it's proximity to the city. Homes are very close together unless your in the millions of dollars range. We did enjoy our 7 years there and met some great people, but couldn't raise our family there.
PTown used to be predominantly Portuguese fishermen when I was growing up. The far majority of "pickle-kissers" are summer residents who live in NY and NJ. No joke, it's the truth.
