    Eric Barton visited the Browns

As Gomer Pyle once said, "Surprise surprise."

CLEVELAND -- While the Browns continue negotiating with one New York Jet free agent, they have begun talking with yet another.

The agent for linebacker David Bowens said he and the Browns are still talking, but there's nothing new to report.

Eric Barton, another Jets linebacker, also has met with the Browns. Barton, 30, led the Jets in tackles last year. He started 46 of 48 games in three years under former Jets coach Eric Mangini.

Meanwhile, the Browns have hired Neil Gulkis as director of public relations.
Gulkis spent the last 12 years with the Miami Dolphins. Prior to that, he worked nine years with the New Orleans Saints.

Gulkis will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the Browns public relations department.

The Browns previously laid off two members of their PR department, Ken Mather and Amy Palcic.

    Would be a solid addition...

Normally, I'd say something bad about Mangini taking hand me downs but this so/so

Hey as long as he doesnt go somewhere in the division. Bartons been my favorite Jet ever since he joined the team. Got an authentic autographed jersey and met the guy a couple of times. The guy lives in the same neighborhood as my stepbrother during the off-season.I'll never be able to wear that jersey again if he goes to the pats*, so good 4 him if he goes to clev

I guess all this interest by former Jets in signing with Cleveland refutes the idea that the players did not like Mangini.

Or no one else wants them.

ehh... i was kind of hoping the Jets would bring him back. he can still play at a high level, and would be great depth/injury insurance.

of course, he probably wants to be a starter.

Regardless of what people say, Barton was a good player for us.

He's been one of the most consistent guys on the team.

I hope he does well wherever he goes.

    Sometimes, money talks.

BTW, other than Bowens and Barton, who has visited the Browns?

Hanky-Panky Poteat just signed with the Browns. Abram Elam was in on Monday to see them as well (to see if they will raise the ante on his $1 million Jets tender).

More like Mangini is one of the few coaches that will give them a shot to win a starting job.
