    Leyritz charged with battery

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4301980

DAVIE, Fla. -- Authorities say former major leaguer Jim Leyritz has been arrested and accused of battery in South Florida.

The arrest comes about two months before he faces a trial on a DUI manslaughter charge.

Broward County Jail spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said Leyritz was booked Thursday morning after an incident in Davie, a Fort Lauderdale suburb. She could not provide additional details.

The 45-year-old Leyritz played for six teams in 11 seasons. During a stint with the New York Yankees, he hit a memorable home run in the 1996 World Series to help the Yankees win Game 4 against the Atlanta Braves.

Police say Leyritz was drunk when he caused a fatal car crash in December 2007. He is scheduled to go on trial in September.

Leyritz's attorney did not immediately return a message.

The full article from the sun sentinel this afternoon has some more details.

Apparently Mom was drunk. Mom hits herself. And the oldest boy apparently was up and witnessed this and said it is a nightly occurence. Must be a fun place to live in that Leyritz household.

Wow, he's in bad shape right now. If I remember correctly, wasn't there a thread about him attempting suicide a month or two ago?
