Anyone ever stop to think maybe the guys ahead of him were better based on their experience playing the position (of which Gholston had none)? Maybe that's what buried him last season? I truely think that will continue this year unless he really lights it up in the first 4 games. He will progressively get more time until he passes one of the other guys. Remember he is behind a former 1st rounder and the team sack leader, both with more experience.
He got into the games and saw plenty of action last year. Enough to expect to have seen something from him. All of this opinion is not simply conjecture based on absence of evidence.

You're kidding, right?
No, I am not. He got into games during garbage time quite alot. He had one solo tackle and 3 assists outside of special teams in an entire NFL season. He played large chunks of garbage time in preseason and did less than nothing against people who were bagging groceries two weeks later. He was doing nothing in practice by several accounts for all of last year and he noticably dogged it on several plays when he did get into the game.
But sure, it is all Eric Mangini's fault. Eric is to blame for conducting a witch hunt against poor Vernon.
