Isnt there a Man Law clearly stating " No one shall discuss Fantasy Football, other than those in your league, with another man, because no one cares!"

Clearly you've never been to a sports bar. On Sundays, the conversations are DOMINATED by Fantasy football. Whether it's asking for a certain game to be put on, or begging for your Kicker to make a 50 yarder for you...

Ok I can respect that... But, let me give you a scenario. Week 2 vs. Pats: Brady goes back to pass... Gholston levels him as he's throwing the ball... he falls to the turf, holding his right shoulder.

What are you thinking? Get up! Get up! I need you! or whooo hooooo!!!! eat dirt you m****r f*****r!!!!!

Sorry. I know what I'm thinkng.

FF is the sports version of Dungeons and Dragons at worst...it's "player stat league" at best.

Eh, fantasy football is a blast dude. I play with a league of guys I went to HS with. A couple have moved out of state and when we have our draft, they fly in for a couple days and we have the draft then party. Last month we all went to San Diego and stayed in the Gaslamp. They also fly in for the Superbowl, and the three last place finishers have to finance the party - kegs, catered food, the works. During the season, we go back and forth talking smack on the league message board. Just really fun stuff.

It's not like the Jets ever come through for me anyways, so FF just enhances the football season. And you end up learning a lot about all the players around the league who's names you normally wouldn't even know. You can always take players from your favorite team too - I picked up Cotchery in the 7th round, and Keller in like the 12th round, which I think are going to be steals.

But he's gonna do what he's gonna do. nothing I say from home to the TV is gonna change that.
So, if Revis shuts him down I'm happy. It's not like I have thousands of dollars riding on this FF *hit. It's just for fun & makes the otherr games more interesting because I could give two craps who wins or loses for other teams unless it directly impacts the Jets.
    Miami
    Pats
    Buffalo
Any AFC team playing an NFC team
I want them all to lose
Fantasy football doesn't change that for me.

    well said

I enjoy FF , I have been playing since 1997. When everything was 'manual' back then.

Anyhow, get in a league with some good friends or cool people and year after year FF becomes this special type of 'reunion' with friends online.

Its cool and as far as rooting for the opponent.......i dont play FF for money so i dont find myself rooting too hard for the opponents, even if the players are on my FF team.

    +1

I've been in a league since 83. Some money involved, but not enough to make or break anyone. Just a way to keep in touch and have some friendly competition with longtime friends.

I instituted a "No Jet" rule back in the early-mid 90's but I broke it during the Curtis Martin years. As far as rooting for players playing against the Jets, I never do it. If I have a player on my fantasy team who lights it up against the Jets, it's no consolation.

I've literally walked out and left my family over Jets losses. I've had to be forcibly restrained from injuring myself or others after some famous Jets losses. I'd never get that way over a fantasy football game.

that is why all of you are awful at FF.. all jets teams? yeah good job finishing last... not picking players because they are a rival? good job also finishing last.

i root for the jets first then worry about fantasy. yes i have tom brady as my quarterback and if gholston comes and blind sides him and knocks the sh.it outta him and knocks him out for the year, i would be ecstatic. that would be one of the best moments of the football season for me... me taking a player does not affect what they are going to do or me cheering against the jets. it just adds a lot of extra excitement to the game

I've grown to love fantasy sports.

    - I feel that because I play fantasy, in some ways I have a better awareness of what's going on around the league. How many non-fantasy players could tell you who plays WR for the 49ers (Besides Crabtree, who won't be doing much of playing it seems), for example? I'm sure a lower percenatage then those who play fantasy football at some form of a competitive level.
    - It gives some interest in games that would otherwise be boring to us. Like I'm going to be watching tonight's game because Ben Roethlisberger and Chris Johnson are on my fantasy teams and I'd like to see them do well. If I didn't have that vested interest, I'm not sure I'd be nearly as interested in that game.
    - Gambling, put down 20 bucks at the beginning of the year, could win 200 in my money league (12 teams, 2nd and 3rd get their money back)
    - Bragging rights among friends (Assuming they're the same friends in said league)

I will say some individual fantasy football players are annoying. You shouldn't be spending much time talking about your fantasy team socially unless you're in a conversation with someone from the same league, because well, who else cares?

As for the fan dilemma, most fringe players I sit when they play against the Jets (For example, I'm sitting Matt Schaub this week). If it's a Superstar, then I'm more inclined to play them anyways (If I owned Andre Johnson, I would), but I never have any problem rooting for the Green and White first and foremost. In the end, it is only a game.... I am a Tom Brady owner in a seperate league, and I will say that I'm not necessairily going out of my way and hoping he does well, but you have to sit back and be able to look at the game objectively and know that at the end of the season, he's going to give you numbers, assuming he stays healthy. And his inevitable doing well will at least benefit my fantasy team.
