Started up two batches of home made pear wine this past weekend, one will be sparkling on will be normal. We'll see how it turns out this year. I've had mixed results in the past.

I've been drinking west coast red blends lately (buy American!). A couple pretty good ones from Washington-
Should be at your local, all for under $15.

Another good red blend, from Australia - easy, smooth drinker, with body. Not some beaujolais type crap.

This one was real good - just like Apothic red, but not quite as strong. Had it with a new york strip roast over the weekend - perfect pairing.

Really good California Zin - robust, but not overly so. Pepper and chocolate/vanilla.
Brazin Old Vine Zin - Lodi, 2009. Prolly 'bout $16 a bottle.

Anyone try these beers that are brewed including wine grapes? Blue Moon is one brewery doing it-
Also, Dogfish Head and Allagash Brewing Company have done it.

Roasted up a 5 pound New York strip over the weekend. Made a peppery gravy in the roasting pan. Drank a bottle of this, which was the perfect compliment to beef and pepper gravy-

It was a bit chilly on Sunday in my neck of the woods. So with my grilled New York strips, I had a bottle of this-
2010 vintage. A blend of 7 varietals from Cali, with the predominant ones Cab Sauv, Merlot, and Zinfandel.
Great with steaks.

If any of yous enjoy dessert wines, you have to get some of this-
Heirloom blend. Fantastic.
Kind of like ice wine, but the apples are picked when ripe and kept in cold storage then pressed and fermented outside in the winter.

My new favorite thing is to make what appears to be a highly educated comment when the sommelier lets me taste the wine before serving it.
"mmmmmm.....that's naughty AND impertinent!" They smile knowingly.
