    OAK Observations

What a disgusting win, to have that game come down to an onside
kick is beyond ridiculous. OAK had no business being on the
field with us in fact we clubbed them like a baby seal in all
areas. Rex Ryan's disgust after the game was appropriate, if the
rest of the team has that mindset maybe we can clean up the self
inflicted wounds. For every positive there was a negative:

    - OLine was devastating in run and pass blocking. But too many
    penalties particularly by Willie Colon

    - Geno Smith was accurate and had great stats. But he had too
many "brainlocks", the INT I'll excuse it was a nice play by
Woodson. The fumble inside the OAK 5 yard line was inexcusable
as a QB you don't have to take that punishment, SLIDE. Finally
when we were up 13-7 at the OAK 20 yard line you can't take that
sack. I'll give Mornhinweg grief for that play call we should
have run the ball up the middle and taken the FG

    - Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory were terrific. But Ivory can't
be celebrating at the 35 yard line on the way to the end zone

    - Greg Salas has to catch that TD pass. It wasn't easy but to
establish yourself in this league you have to catch that ball

    - Solid games by Eric Decker and Jeff Cumberland. I still don't
understand why they called pass interference on Decker

    - DLine was great in stopping the run and getting pressure. But
they had too many lazy offside penalties

    - OAK WR's aren't great but Antonio Allen and Darrin Walls had
good games. Both were excellent in coverage and terrific in their
tackling. Credit to James Jones on that TD catch

    - Dawan Landry also had an excellent game. He actually made impact
    plays

    - Are we ever going to catch an INT??? Calvin Pryor had an easy
pick 6 right in his hands

    - I thought the Vick trick play inside the OAK 5 was way too cute.
Entirely too much ball handling in a tight space especially with
    the turnovers we already committed

    - Will our resident OAK troll now shut up??? Your team is the
retirement home of the NFL. Players go out there to pick up a
pension and a gold watch as they head towards a rocking chair

    - Today's game is also an example of the stupidity of QB ratings.
People will look at Carr's 2 touchdowns and no picks and think
he played well. Give me a break

Great summary. Tons of annoying things that went on that are inexcusable, but the good news is that they are mostly correctable. Better play calling and more discipline and we would have been awesome today. Total domination skill wise.

His arm is much stronger than Chad's. Not even close.

Never pushed the ball downfield... His two longest throws were down the sidelines... He will epitomize the dink and dunk QB...

I agree play calling at times left a lot to be desired, it was like watching Schotty 2 the legend continues.

Play calling was iffy today but MM is a million times better than Schotty.

nice game summary. and agree QB ratings can be misleading. but i actually thought, all things considered (rookie QB, 1st game, on the road, facing a very good complex defense, etc.) that Carr played relatively well and showed poise. would not be surprised to see this kid have a good rookie season.

    Well said KRL

There were positives as well ... But fact of the matter was we totally dominated the Raiders today ... Yet continually shot ourselves in the foot (perhaps with some ref help a couple of times) when opportunity to turn the game into a landslide presented itself.

That $h*t has to be cleaned up if we hope to walk out of GreenBay with a win next week

Are you talking about the Jets play calling?

I thought it was outstanding. Too aggressive at times. Oakland's defense was befuddled much of the game.

Too cute in the red zone. But that was sorted out by halftime.

Disagree. Give Carr two years and a better OL and he could be top 10. Made some rookie mistakes (weren't there two or three delay of game penalties?) and the play calling was very limited, but I thought he played better than most rookie QBs could hope. He won't be Luck, but he won't be Sanchez either. His pass to Jones was where it needed to be for Jones to make a play.

Edit: Luck was just picked off on a tipped pass.

No... I mentioned that Carr is just a dink and dunker and he commented on their play calling...

Same type of comments people used to post about Pennington.

Riiiight, but answer me this - how many games did Pennington start as a rookie?

All the problems we had today are fixable, that is almost as good as the WIN.

I love MM as a coordinator, but there were multiple WTF moments for me today. Shovel pass inside the 5 yard line - there is so much risk there. The sack geno took was terrible, but i put that 90% on MM - why on earth would you pass there when a FG basically seals that game. I don't understand the play call whatsoever. I think we need to run the ball more then we did today (and that is not a negative on geno) its our strong suit and we need to go there more, especially inside the 5 yard line. We also ran too many complicated screens, in particular the one to amaro - those plays are so dangerous and maybe we are setting teams up for the future to plan for plays we won't run, but I truly believe we have enough talent on offense that we don't need to be cute, we can just run standard plays and be successful.

Antonio Allen was the MVP today - he made so many open field tackles. Maybe this whole CB mess is a blessing in disguise and lets us get AA better at a new position/skill set.

Colon was an abomination. I wanted him to start this year, but good lord, his penalties were back breaking today. If it happens again, he has to sit - he is not talented enough to be allowed to CRUSH 3 drives himself.

Decker was awesome, and I agree with KRL - i never saw the pass interference on him. The screen in particular was great, decker is in now way strictly a possession WR. For all the anti-decker guys, he had 5-74 today, not even a great line. That would equate to WAY more then the 40 catches scherlth predicted.

The Dline was great today as was demaro and pryor. If milliner can be what he should be, this defense could be excellent

I just want to run, run, run the ball more.

Too bad for Carr that he landed on the Raiders. I think he will be a good QB one day. Wouldn't mind having him on my team in fact.

Again, Carr's arm strength and release are nothing like Chad's, I'm not sure what you are watching on Carr but you couldn't be more wrong.

Time will tell... I just didn't see much from him other than trying to manage the game and throw underneath...
