This is getting blown way out of proportion. This happens every year and now it's an issue? It's not like they sat the starters for the entire game. They played over 2 quarters and left with a lead. It's their choice anyway. Now the media is pressing every team to play their starters to the end. Are you kidding me? ESPN just reported that Goodell is coming up with a plan to give teams an incentive to play. Extra draft picks or something. Unreal. I think the poll that Sunday Night Football had last week said it all. The vast majority of people in the country agreed with what the Colts did overwhelmingly. It's just the the b*tching fans and higher ups of the teams that got screwed causing the comotion.

As soon as the Jets benefit from it people start crying. If this was any other team it would be a non story. How about the BS officiating that we've been getting against us for 41 years and all those other incidents (Shula not covering the field) everybody else gets away with that...but the Jets have to play by a different rule book.
Sorry, but there is nothing the NFL can do about this. IF teams want to rest people, they will. They earn that right. I tell you one thing the NFL should not do, that's expand the schedule to 18 games, you might see even more of this down the stretch.
+1

And if the NFL "forces" a team to play a star QB and he gets hurt the outrage from the media and that teams fans would dwarf this week X 100

Incentives like extra picks is justpathetic. Say a team did decideto do that to get a pick, how is that fair to a non playoff team whosbeen playing their starters all the time. Might as well give out picks to all teams that play starters.

What about teams that are totally out of it that play backups to see about next year?

This is just a knee jerk reaction. It'll be over soon.
Referees make between 25K - 75K per season according to these websites:

    http://www.job-employment-guide.com/nfl-referee-salary.html

They're also only supposed to work only once a week (so a Thursday night ref can't ref in the next Monday night game)

That's up to about 4300$ per game.

Not bad for 3 hours a week. Yes, they can be held to a higher standard.
Most refs take a super pay cut for officiating, BTW. Some of these guys are major business execs making 500K a year and more.
By and large they do ok and they ARE graded for their performance. Some get fired, others get or do not get good assignments - playoffs, SB.

Because the game doesn't have playoff implications. They're all hypocrites. This will be done with by the end of the next week.

Perhaps the U.S. Senate will get involved. I look forward to hearing Barbara Boxer or Al Franken ( a couple of rocket scientists) discussing the issue. Or maybe Barney Frank in the House. Don't bet against it.
Arlen Spector of PA demanded an investigation a few years ago.

It's a terrible idea. Hope it doesn't happen.

How much different is this from pulling your starters in a blowout win? Are the league going to stop that too? And will they insist on teams running up the score?
