The point is you don't sell a talented player for 30 cents on the dollar.
If that's all you can get, then F'N KEEP HIM!
well let's see..clashed with coaching staff, been described as someone who is distracted by enterprises other than football, doesn't fit in with coach's style, a year from now chances are his stock will go down more than up (Vilma in 2006 to 2007) so why not move him at his current position.
If Rex thinks it's addition by subtraction than so be it. It's not like we have a bad track record with 4th round picks.
I like what this does for Braylon too! He just got a first hand glimpse of what being a prima donna will get you -- a 1 way ticket out of dodge.
A couple of things come to mind:
- Some are saying we gave up Rhodes for nothing, this is a guy who does have a lot of talent, but seemed to be more interested in his post-football career, and seemed to have lost his speed, remember that INT in the Cincy game?
- End of season, Rhodes had his big end of year meeting with Rex, team puts out that they want him back, all of a sudden, the very loose lipped Rhodes is quiet, and talking about wanting to come back after being very open about the possibility he is gone, Tanny and Rex basically told him to STFU.
- A quick review of the RFA's, isn't Balitmore S, Landry a RFA?
knowing tanny hes not one to stockpile picks
dnt be surprised if he we trade up once or twice even
and to all those thinking we will trade down....understand thats not an option for tanny....he goes after the players he wants
Our #1 Seconday isn't the #1 secondary anymore... Not without Kerry Rhodes.
What a freaking mess this is right now... WR during round one? OLB during round one? Think again... Now we HAVE TO waste a freaking 1st round pick on a safety when Kerry Rhodes was already one hell of a player.
Well, the Kerry Rhodes haters got their way... Rhodes is gone. The Jets #1 Pass Defense is now long gone.
It's not just #1 secondary, right now, we're not the #1 defense anymore.
Tannenbaum seriously better have something up his sleeve, because as of right now, we've gotten worse, not better.
I hope you're happy right now haters, because if Tannenbaum doesn't have something up his sleeve, you're going to be in for a rude awakening come September.
Lastly, it's the safety position. It will always be considered less of a value position compared to others.
yes, but when you degrade the roster when it was near perfect as can be, and you don't recoup real performative value (as opposed to liquid value as a draft pick) -- that's poor resource management.
The only way this is good is
1 - if Rex gave instructions explicitly that Kerry is a goner. And that meeting at the end of the year may have included this.
2 - if Rex is using this as a way to motivate, as a way to refine his roster vision, by sending a message: if u are a *****, and and inflexible primadonna, you are gone. if your heart isn't in football, you are gone.
such a short time ago rhodes was our best player (06 and 07) and now hes gone. first big mistake in tannenbaum/ryan era.
ahh you're right but times change but to call this a mistake, at least at this juncture, seems a bit premature. 4th round pick isn't as bad as it sounds, remember Rhodes was a 4th round pick for us and football isn't like most other sports, an extra 4th rounder can give you some extra spin in the waters.
