im not a doctor but my understanding is that it was a double open compound fracture. the double part refers to Tib and fib break... that part is rare... the tibia breaks... but the fibula doesn't usually break... it's a really hard bone... and it takes time to heal.
I looked it up a while back... and the only other NFL player I could find recovering from a Fibula break was Michael Bush... and he had multiple surgeries and his entire rookie year on the IR to get back to speed. It was a 2 year injury.
Ive not found any other NFL player to recover from a fibula break. I could be (and hope that) I am wrong.
If you set a broken bone well it'll be fine. I'm not worried about this injury's physical effects on Leon at all.
