VT has a LOT of alum here in Charlotte. Been to Blacksburg once, great college town, great alum base.

IMO the reason many "tough" college programs have a high dropout rate is not due to the abilities of the individual, but rather the ability of the individual to put the time in to do the work and not get distracted by all the social aspects of college. My college started out with about 90 students in the premedical track. Finished with only around 30-35, in many cases because they got hung up on the "party scene". You were accepted, that means that you were judged to be capable of completeing the program successfully. Have fun, but remember the primary reason why you are there is to get your engineering degree. Good luck.
