You have got to be kidding me.

They're going to take Arnold's masterpiece and gay it the f*ck down. Guaranteed some pretty boy like Wentworth Miller will play Arnold's role, with a rapper like 50 Cent playing Dillon and a horrible CGI-generated Predator.

I won't be watching that piece of sh*t. The original is a classic. Leave it alone.

Tron and Predators are (I believe) more sequels/continuations. They are not the same as their originals.

Elm Street is a Franchise ReBoot.

Red Dawn and Clash are traditional "Remakes", as they are neither franchsies, nor are sequels expected to either even if successful.

I have no idea about Karate Kid, hadn't heard of that one.

The problem is Hollywood is devoid of any original ideas. You don't see movies like the Godfather or even Forrest Gump made anymore.

Everything is either an 80s remake, or an old TV show or cartoon made into a movie with CGI. And every single one of them is a waste of two hours.

Red Dawn? Really? Who is it going to be this time? China? At least the first time one could plausibly believe that the Soviets could invade ... How much better does our military have to be than everyone else's before middle America stops being afraid?

If you haven't seen the new Karate Kid trailer, it's a totally different story from the original. Basically they just took the name Karate Kid and slapped it on a new movie.

Jackie Chan is playing Mr. Miyagi, although his name is Mr. Han.

No doubt, originallity isn't their economic focus any longer. But there ARE plenty of original movies released each year, trouble is.....yup, few of the public go see them. and with the cost of movies astronomical, it's got to almost a fiscally sure-thing to warrant the investment.

And with respect, I'm glad for no new films like Godfather (how original, yet another Mafia flick based on a popular book) or Forrest Gump (a horribad ****efilm).

Original is great....if the topic, story, characters, theme and ideas are great behind it. Trouble is, most mainstream material...isn't.

That, more than anything else, is the problem. The Holywood Movie-making Industry has (IMO) moved far too much in the "preach social commentary of a very specific nature" direction for it's "original" material, where almost every original new release is a "scathing example of how the U.S. is bad because of X". Insert your preferred agenda item here.

Story and Characters and Fun have taken a back seat to politics and CGI. So like music, finding great films is often a case of searching for the diamond in the rough, or the smaller cheaper-made releases.
