I don't know much about tubes.

    Sovtek EL84
    Tung-Sol 12AX7
    Svetlana EL34

I have a blacked out old RCA that I can't read.

I'm getting a new amp with:

Switchable EF86 or 12AX7 input tube.Want to tame the beast a bit, flip it into 12AX7 mode. Love the EF86's as much as we do, they are known to have a bad hair day now and again. If the EF86 gets testy with you during a gig, no problem, switch over to 12AX7 and finish out the show!

You don't know s*** about tubes or wine. You do have an amusing way of storytelling, but you seem to be the definition of a one-trick pony.

He could have got me for my wife going on the roof for various tasks because I'm afraid of falling off roofs, but he missed it.

They do. I'd LOVE to hear some quality tube gear to listen to in a quality 2-channel stereo rig. I don't mind the warm up as I usually do this anyway when I'm planning on doing some extended listening in the basement...for some reason, I'm under the impression that playing some material through my solid state gear before hand makes things gel better for when I get down there. It probably has more to do with the number of drinks I have before I head down there though.
