Only if he was born here, to a mother that was born here, or that became a citizen.

Would you rather party with Nipsey Russell or Isaac from The Love Boat?

Yes! A true "american" icon that perpetuated the small screen with likes of 70s greats. Archie Bunker, Fred G. Sanford and Charles Nelson Reilly.

No, my comment is a question to your statement. Was that what you were trying to infer?

what about you? what were you trying to infer that a person can only be an American if they are born in America to an American mother? what if the father is American, that doesn't count?

and what if my definition of "America" is at the continental level, and not just the United States? when Columbus "discovered America," he didn't land in the good ol' U S of A, did he?

so once again, what are YOU trying to infer?

My mistake on leaving out the father end of it....As far as the rest of it I believe the start of this thread was about America and American, not Canada or S America, but please feel free to interject a response to flat out questions that are not directed to you....

this thread is about being American, and that's what i'm talking about. America is a continent, the United States of America is a country. so the term "American" can have different connotations, for instance: a Mexican or a Brazilian would be fully entitled to call themselves American; it's not an exclusive right of the US citizens.

saying that a Mexican isn't an American would be like saying that a Swiss is not a European because Switzerland doesn't form part of the EU.
