    Jets interested in JaMarcus Russell?

found this on ESPN......why does everyone available have to tied to the Jets?

    Jets interested in JaMarcus Russell?

June, 29, 2010 Jun 299:27AM ETEmail Print Comments By Rich Cimini.

When he was hired in 2006, GM Mike Tannenbaum vowed to look under every rock in an effort to procure talent. That apparently includes discarded boulders.

Sources say the Jets have checked under the JaMarcus Russell rock.

The Jets are interested in acquiring a veteran quarterback before training camp and, while sources maintain that free agent Mark Brunell remains the odds-on favorite, the team isn’t ignoring other options. And one player they’re monitoring is the former Oakland Raiders bust, who was cut recently after reportedly ballooning to 300 pounds, give or take a buffet.

Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007, is training in Arizona, trying to get in shape. The Jets have received positive reports, but don’t jump to conclusions here. Their interest appears to be cursory; we’re talking maybe one phone call. Sources say the Arizona Cardinals or the Minnesota Vikings are the most likely landing spot.

The Jets wouldn’t be handcuffed by the “Final Eight” rules if they decide to sign Russell. That’s because he was released by another team. To sign Brunell, an unrestricted free agent, the Jets have to wait until late July, when the restrictions are lifted. And that appears to be the plan.

Frankly, Russell in New York would be a disaster. There are many reasons why it wouldn’t work, but let’s keep it to one: He’s an all-time underachiever, and you don’t want those kinds of players messing with your chemistry. You also don't want him hanging around your young franchise quarterback, Mark Sanchez, who is the anti-JaMarcus.

But, at the same time, it’s a thin quarterback market and the Jets are getting their ducks in a row, just in case Brunell falls through. Something tells me they’d sooner stick with Kellen Clemens than hand the No. 2 job to Russell, but he’s worth mentioning because he’s a big name – and a big quarterback. Too big.

Same reason every decent Basebal Player is rumoured to the Yankees/Mets.

New York IS the Media and the Money. Rumours here drive signing everywhere else.

Because Tannebaum always says the Jets will explore all options for obtaining players.

And it doesn't hurt to just do alittle research regarding JRussell. It doesn't mean the research lasts more than 10 minutes but no harm in at least making a call or two.

It seems every time Tannebaum farts Cimini has to write about it, I guess we should be thankful we have a proactive GM.

Cimini certainly should be. Only thing keeping him in his job.

I dont blame the Jets for doing their homework on the guy, but I can't picture there being any real interest right now.

We drafted John Connor, we don't need a fullback.

If there truly is some interest, it won't be for the QB position.

we're thin at DE and Russell is 6'6"-300.

    sounds like a perfect fit.

That would be humiliating, for the team, coaching staff, players, and the fans.

There's not many people that Kellen Clemens is better than...but he's better than Russell!
