Let's face it: The Mets underachieve. Team culture need a total overhaul.

    2006
    2007
    2008
    2010

    No leadership since 1988.

When was the last team brawl?

When was the last team fight?

It's just a team of isolators (Beltran, Castillo etc), "teenagers" (Wright, Reyes, etc), and over-rators (Frenchy, Bey, etc)

Minaya is to blame since he was more concerned about the personal back ground of the player than about the "fight" in the man. But, the Wilpons are to blame as well ("teenager" Jeff Wilpon being in charge frightens me)

    It's pretty serious.

And, never forget this: No everyday homegrown NY Met has ever gone to the HOF in 48 years. What does that tell you about this organization?

    Uh...Tom Seaver?

(Though I don't disagree with the overall tenor of your post).

I understand what Schroy48 is saying about the whole brawling situation.

In 2008, the Rays and Yankees got into a little scuffle @ 2nd base during spring ball... That one incident really had the Rays going into the season with a "Back down to Noone mentality".

During the Red Sox game... Jason Bartlett blocked 2nd base with his knee and Coco Crisp hurt his finger. The next time Crisp was heading into 2nd base... He made an obvious DIRTY slide on Aki @ 2nd base... He took out his anger on an innocent player who had nothing to do with the whole Bartlett-Crisp incident.

The Rays, as a team, got behind Aki like never before. The team really took his slide, that could have ended Aki's career personal. The next game @ Fenway? Crisp got what was coming to him. James Shields hit Crisp in his first @ bat. From there... Rays players such as Crawford, Aki, Navarro and Gomes were all giving it to Crisp in the pile up.

Yeah, the Rays lost some players for a couple of games... But the team really got close after that incident. They all had eachothers back the entire season. They played as a team.

The 86 Mets did not get into 11 brawls. The Mets problem isn't "scrappiness, fight or toughness" it's that they just don't have enough good players.

Mets should sign Pedro to a 5 year deal.

This will attract many Latin star players.

Um, I watched every single game in '86 (went to 24 games) and they did get into 11 brawls that season. Since I remember this stat from '86 and there is no where for you to look this up - dont lie to us and tell us that there wasnt.

Dont have enough good players? Youre missing the point. The players are good, then arent once they need to be on the Mets. This is totally obvious.

The brawls both inside the clubhouse and inflicted on opponents is what kept the team on an edge. That edge translated into them being the most hated team in the game and 108 wins

Mike Piazza set a very bad precedent when he didnt knock off Clemens head for throwing a broken bat at him in 2000. Form that point on, this team has no fight in them.

I hope you have a little understanding of what I'm talking about now.

Sorry dude, you're wrong. The Mets got into 4 brawls that year. I almost specified that in my original post but wasn't sure if it was 4 exactly. Don't call me a liar when you don't have the facts straight.

The last time the Mets ruled the baseball universe was 1986 -- the year of countless curtain calls, four brawls, a double-digit division lead by mid-June, Lenny Dykstra's home run, the breathtaking National League Championship Series, Mookie Wilson and Bill Buckner and Jesse Orosco's glove launch.
Other than Bay, who was good and then came to the Mets and started to suck?

The Mets fought the Pirates, Phillies, Reds and Dodgers in 1986.
