I love Jazz and I love rock. So why is it that I hate Fusion and always have? Just me, I guess.

Turn off the porn while practicing!

You probably arent using a metronome; you definitely are NOT counting. I am taking lessons from this guy*, and he said all bedroom guitarists DON'T COUNT. We also fail when jamming with others in that we don't count and play our parts, we just lose track. Then the "I suck" song starts in our heads.

So, I took what he said to heart and the quick and dirty get you counting habitually method is:

Play 5 choruses of the song (whatever) counting without missing. Then just jam and be creative. Anything goes. It works for me; I assume that's enough.

BTW, since Grace Potter is local, we get a lot of news about her and the band.
She fired her bass player a couple of years ago and he went to the local entertainment writer to rant and rave about it. Grace's closing argument was that his timing sucked and he refused to use a metronome while practicing.

You strike me as the guy who opens the door for all to see, when I'm shagging the only decent chick at the party.

This is one of things that I pride myself on. While I never practice with a metronome, I always keep the foot tappin' and have always been able to play along just fine with albums.

Honestly, you either have rhythm or you don't.

I'm not saying I've never been off with my time before, but when you're talking about playing with a band... if you're not listening you're probably not in a band.
