This guy is fcking extraordinary. I found him while I was searching for some Youtube jazz piano tutorials. He used to play with Ray Charles, among others. Might be one of the great jazz pianists on the planet. His command is sick. It's imperative that you listen to the whole song so you can follow along with the crescendo as it builds.
Yeah kool. What a nice piece. The thing about music is there are SO MANY great players.

This piano player (Harold Maybern), a NY city jazz session player, I met at a JAZZ clinic when I was in high school. A few years later at a jazz club I walked up to say hello and he asked me to play a blues piece. The bass player was totally kool and let me play. I think we played Nows the time by Charlie Parker. It was so kool. Playing with a professional jazz player, in front of my girlfriend. He was my first REAL exposure to "blue note jazz". Harold Maybern, Jamil Nasser, Elliott Zigmund taught a clinic in Stony Brook.

Very nice. Thanks for posting the artist, southside.

This will sound crazy, but his sound reminds me of Vince Guaraldi and Bruce Hornsby.

That's funny; he reminded me of DWC.

The late, great Billy Taylor. Tempo shift at approx. 1:21. What a great record.

yep.... fantastic player. He taught a workshop at SUNY Fredonia that I attended. It was an education like no other.

Used to love his pieces on Sunday morning with CBS.

Interestingly, I do not like it.

Mingus has a habit of playing a bit dissonant at times and while Duke is in a league of his own, both as a player and composer, It sounds like those 3 said "fukk it" lets play some dissonant $hit that we like.

Its not a tune I would play for someone I am trying to introduce to jazz.

I would play something like this. I loved playing this in a jazz band in college.

That's never my intention in this thread. Usually, I just post music that's playing at the moment or have found on YouTube.

I must have very jaded ears. I don't find that tune all that dissonant.

Listen to what Mingus is doing. THAT has never been something I enjoyed.

I don't find myself listening to Miles much anymore, but this haunting track has always been a favorite. My old cat Mugs used to act like she was tripping on catnip whenever I played it... just this specific track. It drove her wild.

So this one's for Mugs (and me).

That's cool. I like it. It's what makes music so amazing; we all hear, and appreciate, different aspects of it.

Mile tone is so captured in this piece.

Very simple, straight forward but its what I love about Miles tone.

I can't find this piece done by Mingus but this is the Mingus ensemble.

the tune is awesome and represent to me , Mingus as a composer.

It was in the film jerry McGuire and i thought to myself, I wonder how many people know this tune.
