Wow! You just can't make these things up. I wonder if KRod was pissed that he didn't come into the game in the 8th inning tonight.

Does he even have control over the team anymore? Players losing their cool is one thing, but your star closer beating up his father-in-law is something slightly different.

Mets star closer Francisco (K-Rod) Rodriguez was arrested after Wednesday night's game for assaulting his father-in-law, police sources said.

Rodriguez and his wife's father brawled in a tunnel just outside the Mets clubhouse in the moments following the team's 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies.

The father-in-law suffered facial abrasions and was taken by ambulance to Flushing Hospital shortly after the 10:15 p.m. incident, police said.

Rodriguez, 28, was charged with third-degree assault, police said.

Moments before the explosion with his family, Rodriguez snapped at reporters who asked why he was not summoned to pitch in a bases loaded situation in the 8th inning.

Investigators believe the emotional closer threw at least one punch during the altercation, which spilled into the hallway outside the team's Family Lounge.

Rodriguez was yelling as he was pushed back from the lounge into the hallway, which was crowded with people, including many woman and children, waiting for players after the game.

Team security arrived and stopped foot traffic in the hallway as they pulled the pitcher from the group and hustled him back into the clubhouse.

When approached and asked about the scene in the hallway, the visibly angry Rodriguez snapped, "Mind your own f-----g business," to a reporter who witnessed the altercation.

Rodriguez then left the clubhouse but was taken into NYPD custody a short time later.

The Mets confirmed their star had an alteration with a relative but referred all further questions to the NYPD.

Before last season, Rodriguez signed a three-year, $37 million free agent deal with the Mets after seven years with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The closer has 25 saves and a 2.24 ERA so far this season.

That punch was meant for Manuel probably.

    Burkhardt looks shaken on tv.

Adam Rubin says no arrest yet but in custody. News and post say he has been charged

K-Rod is clearly nuts but hopefully this is related to Manuel and finally gets him out the door

That $17.5M 2012 option is pretty easily attainable as long as he stays healthy next year too... Although to be fair, he's been very good of late - but of course the Mets are not going to want that option to be reached.

Lets see what Fred and Jeff COUPONS handle this. Maybe there was a Tony Bernazard sighting.

In the memorable words of former Yankees GM Lee MacPhail,"We (in this case the Mets) May Have To Call Off Family Day."

KRod will be arraigned this morning at Queens Criminal Court.

Telling that M. Rivera never liked K-Rod. Asked that K-Rod not be given a nearby locker in AL (Yankee) clubhouse for 2008 All-Star Game.

A good manager always knows how healthy the relationship is between all of his players and their in-laws.

This should not get Jerry fired.

The collapse of the Mets offense after the all-star break should

    Not this.

This has nothing to do with a healthy relationship between family members. Clearly, Manuel pissed off K-Rod so much by not using him in the game that he took out his anger in the most ridiculous way possible.
