Songs with Huge Verses

Borgo's thread got me thinking of the more obscure question of which songs have memorable power verses, such that the chorus actually comes as a let down. Here are a few that come to mind.

Great idea, AFC. BTW, "Stone in Love" is one of my favorite tunes to jam on guitar.

    Two jump immediately to mind:

This classic tune also has a great chorus, but the verses--with Blackmore's eternally cool riff--really drive the piece.

    Verses so big...

...that it needed two YouTube videos to hold it!

Graham Bonnet sounds like he's auditioning for AC/DC in the verses (which start around 1:04), but the very pop-py chorus is out of place and a huge let-down for me.

One of my man Tony Thompson's lesser-known acts, but an extremely talented band nonetheless. Hard-driving verses in this tune, but a boring chorus.

Awesome that you play Stone in Love on the guitar. Great tune and probably my second favorite Journey song behind Feeling That Way.

Not saying I can play Neal's solo. The rhythm isn't too difficult.

Infinity is a quintessential record from that era. What f**king talent in that band. Although I like Jonathan Cain, I hated when Greg Rolie left. I LOVE "Feelin' That Way", but it must be played in tandem with the brilliant, "Lights".

Also, "Wheel in the Sky" could have a place in both this and the Chorus threads.

Infinity is a great album. I prefer it to Evolution, even though Evolution had my favorite Journey line-up, with Rolie still there and Steve Smith making his first appearance as a huge (IMO) upgrade over Aynsley Dunbar. I really love the tracks where Rolie and Perry sing together. Rolie's 70's-smooth, even-keeled, sound is the perfect complement to Perry's high-ranging falsetto.

Absolutely. Although Smith upgrades almost any band he'd join. You really are part of the drumming cognoscenti. :D

I was just listening to some Ten Years After and thought this one had a big, bluesy verse riff.

You ever hear Gary Barden sing this? Freaking horrid. Bonnet is a world class singer and Barden is a hack. Dont understand why MS has kept him around. Whats even worse is that you can still hear Bonnet's voice filling in the chorus

Bonnet's ego was too big. A lot of these guitar-god types, Schenker included, have egos that won't permit them share the stage with a singer of equal talent. Barden is obviously a lesser light and that's just the way the german likes it.

Nevertheless, IMO Barden's Built to Destroy is the best MSG album (close call w/ Bonnet's Assault Attack).
