At least Rex Ryan went out to try him out for himself during the draft process.

    1. I like Gilbert I think he has a great upside.
    2. IMO he can transition well from a 4-3 tackle with the bears to a 3-4 DE for the Jets, I believe that Rex can get the talent out...

    3. I have found it curious that the Jets have started to pick up young hard hitting safeties in Emmanual Cook and Fitzhugh

    4. The Jets have outstanding depth at the safety position in Leonhard,Pool,Smith and Ihedigbo. All productive players but Smith and Ihedigbo both make over a million....Thats a lot of coin for a fourth safety...
    5. How about a trade sending safety Ihedigbo to the bears fro Gilbert ??

Ihedigbo is one of my favorite Jets. If we trade him, I'll go ballistic.

I know how it works... I just didn't know that it goes through a draft order. Oh well.

I would expect him to be picked up before we get a say.
Everyone's draft day darling from last year could be cut.

There's talk of the Bears stashing him on the practice squad. Just seen it on ESPNEWS.
I remember alot of posters were lobbying for the Jets to draft him with their 3rd round pick, good thing Tannenbaum and Rex drafted Shonn Greene with that pick instead!

If we can steal him off the Bears practice squad though I'd be all for it. We need to sign atleast one DE before week one.

I'd bringing him in for sure. no way a guy with his raw physical talent is "done" so soon. We have better coaches

I agree, this guy brings intensity and fire to the field, love him on special teams coverage and on blitzing downs!

I like all our Safeties, Leonhard is a leader and under rated, Eric Smith is a hard working, tough SOB, Pool has potential to be a solid starter in this Defense and already spoke on Ihedigbo.

Final auditions tonight for Bears on roster bubble

Jarron Gilbert, Marcus Harrison and Henry Melton: Seven spots appear firmly locked up: Anthony Adams, Mark Anderson, Tommie Harris, Israel Idonije, Julius Peppers, Matt Toeaina and Corey Wootton.

The Bears may keep anywhere from eight to 10 defensive linemen, depending on what they do at linebacker and in the secondary.

That puts several draft picks on the bubble.

Melton (fourth round, 2009) has drawn plenty of praise from coaches, but one NFC pro scout said Gilbert (third round, 2009) has looked sharpest of the three. Toeaina's elevation has hurt the footing of Harrison (third round, 2008).

Josh Moore: The fifth-round pick has had his moments at training camp, but he could be the odd man out because he may not have the polish -- or special teams tools -- to contribute this season.

At this point, D.J. Moore seems to have the edge on Corey Graham, and veteran Tim Jennings is a solid insurance policy as the fifth cornerback.

    JARRON GILBERT, Defensive lineman

Gilbert sacked Browns quarterback Colt McCoy on a third-down play, his second sack in as many weeks.

Get me Melton. I had him on my draft radar last year. Very interesting kid. I do believe he played Fullback before moving to D-line. He's big and fast (out of Texas?) and Ryan could use him as a project.

Receiver Juaquin Iglesias and defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert, both third-round picks in the '08 draft, appear to be on the way out. Gilbert told the Tribune he had not heard a word from the Bears Friday.

Defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert was feeling less confident after Thursday's game, even though he had a sack for the second straight week.

High draft picks like Gilbert, who was snagged in the third round last year, usually are given time to develop. But the Bears have a full house on the defensive line, and with finals cuts due at 5 p.m., Gilbert was leery.

There's a chance the Bears could keep eight d-linemen this year, rather than the nine they kept last year, and that would mean trouble for Gilbert.

"You're always nervous," said the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Gilbert, who contributed little last year while appearing briefly in just four games. "We'll see. You definitely worry about it, but hopefully I did enough."

Maybe Tanny should offer the Bears a 7th round pick for Gilbert. I doubt Gilbert would last long enough for the Jets to claim him.

With the loss of Pace and Pititoua the Jets probably will take a look at OLB's and DE's that get released.

just spoke w/Bauer's partner who's on his way to the Fresno State game..as of last night they were 99% he was going to get cut...they expect he won't last long on the waiver wire...Jets are interested but they think Gilbert could ultimately end up in Oakland...

Yeah, don't think he will last for the Jets. I suggested above Tanny should have offered a 7th for him...

Seems like he has already been released...

Defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert, a third-round pick of the Bears and their top selection in the 2009 draft, told the Tribune he was released Saturday morning.

Gilbert was caught in a numbers game and may have lost out to close friend Henry Melton, a fourth-round pick in 2009 who secured a spot with strong special-teams play and a high motor.

Gilbert, who suffered a neck stinger during the preseason, never really showed much until the last two exhibition games. He had sacks in back-to-back games against the Cardinals and Browns, but it wasn't enough to save his job.

Gilbert played in just four games as a rookie, was inactive for 11 games and did not play in another.

The Bears apparently will release both of their third-round picks from the '09 draft with receiver Juaquin Iglesias expected to be let go, too.

If you remember, Gilbert was the YouTube sensation that was filmed jumping out a poll right before the draft.
