Reggie Bush to be stripped of Heisman

    http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angele...ory?id=5542215

Report: Reggie Bush to lose trophy

The Heisman Trophy Trust is expected to strip former USC running back Reggie Bush of his 2005 Heisman Trophy and leave the award vacant, Yahoo Sports reported.

Two sources close to the trust said the organization is completing its investigation and will agree with the NCAA's finding that Bush accepted improper benefits while at USC and was ineligible during the 2005 season, according to the report. The NCAA cited USC for "lack of institutional control" and handed the Trojans four years' probation, a two-year bowl ban and a reduction in football scholarships.

Bush would become the first player in the 75-year history of the Heisman Trophy to have the award taken away.

In July, USC president C.L. Max Nikias ordered the school's athletic department to return its copy of Bush's 2005 Heisman to the Heisman Trophy Trust. Nikias also ordered the school to remove nearly all references to Bush and former basketball player O.J. Mayo, including murals, as part of the NCAA's directive to disassociate the school from the athletes.

As that time, Bush had not been asked to return his copy and the Heisman Trophy Trust said it had not yet decided whether Bush would be stripped of the award.

Bush met with Heisman representatives last month at the New York law offices of Emmet, Marvin & Martin, the sources said, according to the report.

The sources declined to discuss the details of that meeting, according to the report.

Last week, Texas coach Mack Brown said former Longhorns quarterback Vince Young, who finished second in the 2005 Heisman voting to Bush, should be given the award if Bush is stripped. Young led the Longhorns past USC to the BCS national championship that year, after Bush was awarded the Heisman in a landslide.

The NCAA ruled that Bush received lavish gifts from two fledgling sports marketers hoping to sign him. The men paid for everything from hotel stays and a rent-free home where Bush's family apparently lived to a limousine and a new suit when he accepted his Heisman in New York in December 2005.

Just read about this. I find it sort of lame that they try and take things like wins and trophies away from schools and players. The masses all know he won that award because he was by and far the best player in college at that time... given the circumstances. So he took some money and had his family shacked up for free and now we're seeing all of this stuff?

I understand the future bans like removing the ability to compete for the National Championship and bowl games. But saying that a team or player didn't really win? That's pretty childish.

The Ends{Winning} does Not justify the Means!
Reggie Bush clearly BROKE NCAA college rules by accepting a New Car & monthly cash to attract Kim Kardasian's butt.
His step Dad & Mother also accepted a New Home & fully paid Road trips to all Reggie boys games at USC.See Real sports on HBO for all the facts.
Reggie then tried to screw that agent who provided it all by signing with another agent on draft day
    Reggie's Name fits "Bush league"

They need to stop it with this nonsense. One of three things needs to happen. Either pay the kids, give them perks like Bush got or strip all the advertising from game.

It's amazing how on one hand the NCAA officials get all high and mighty when someone gets caught getting perks and on the other they hand out bags of Tostidos to make sure the kids who just made the National Championship Game are sucking up to the sponsors. Taking the apartment for Mom is terrible, but having "Tostidos" all over your uniform while playing a game is perfectly fine.

These kids are doing all the work and they cannot touch a cent of the billions coming in. Makes no sense.

I understand that it's against the rules. But to take away past wins and awards, it's pretty weak. But we're talking about the NCAA here. The only board of league directors that is more incompetent than the NCAA is the FIFA administration.

The only nonsense that needs to end is the idea that NCAA Football is for "Student Athletes".

Treat it like what it is, the NFL's Developmental League. NCAA Football has nothing to do with education, and everythign to do with being a money-maker for schools who already pay teacher 100K and charge the rest of the gullible schlubs $20K+ a year to get educations.

It's funny, the Govt, is always going after business (like oil) for overpricing and exploiting the market, when the College System is the single most corrupt and overpriced racket going.

That's my point. If he was caught using PEDs then I'd be all for it. THAT'S cheating. Getting free sh!t... come on. Like I said, penalize the future opportunities of the program like Bowl games and scholarships. But trying to take away past achievements as if they never happend... that's pretty stupid. The general public knows what teams and players won accolades.

Isnt it bad enough that he is a complete bust and part time player? I mean, he was supposed to be the next gail sayers.

Let him wallow in his own bustness and leave the guy alone.

Makes sense for the NCAA, they want all the money to go to the schools, not the players.

OJ just had to sell his, he's still listed as the trophy winner...they are actually going to try and pretend that Bush didn't win his by wiping his name off the books

but hey, i guess tainting the notion of "amateurism" is worse than going to jail for kidnapping and having a civil jury find you guilty of wrongful death

Complete bust seems a bit much....28 tds and 250+ catches in 4 years is far from a bust.

Maybe he hasnt lived up to full expectations of a top 5 pick, but hes miles ahead of some other top RB picks (Mcfadden), let alone top 5 draft picks in general.

He should just get an exact replica of the heisman made...he earned it on the field, the money had nothing to do with that.

    Bush got whacked!

End the Hypocrisy...just Pay the athletes for the entertaining services they provide. Give them a fair share of the monies they are generating for these institutions.

    Sounds nice, but doesn't happen.

I'm sure there is a small percentage that goes back into improving the schools, but the majority does not. Coaches with multi-million dollar contracts kills any "they want all the money to go to the school" argument.

OJ gets to keep his Heisman, but Bush can't.

If he did not get these items, he may have gone to a different school and that school would have had his services and perhaps won more games or even a championship

So, what you're saying is that Reggie Bush was so good that he could have made another school a national championship winner.

All the more reason to let him keep the Heisman.
