Jets act like "frat boys" when female reporter visits practice

Posted by Mike Florio on September 11, 2010 6:59 PM ET
Though the NFL Films cameras are now gone, potential distractions remain at Jets practice.

A female reporter from TV Azteca was present today. Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation tell us that the Jets responded to her presence by "acting like frat boys."

Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post made reference to the situation via Twitter on a couple of occasions. Hubbuch said that defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman was reportedly overthrowing players in drills so that they could "accidentally" run into her. Hubbuch also says that at one point linebacker Jason Taylor volunteered to take reps in the drill.

Hubbuch described the scene as "hilarious," but that sentiment wasn't universal. We're told that the reporter went into the locker room after practice, and that some of the players behaved like construction workers and/or prison inmates.

One source said that defensive tackle Kris Jenkins was the loudest of the bunch, at one point exclaiming "this is our locker room," as if to justify the conduct.

Some believe that the reporter appeared to be embarrassed, to the point of being close to tears. Other reporters found the behavior of the players to be juvenile.

    To each his own...

This team is trying to get to and win a Super Bowl. Instead I see them eating cheeseburgers during practice and focusing on acting like children just two days before the opener. It would be nice to see them a little more focused then letting a little fun get to another level.

They're Rex's Jets, not the douchy "all class" Giants. Lighten up, Francis.

Tell Florio to keep doing stories on NFL players catcalling women.

I can't believe anyone read this and said "Wow. Those jerks".

    For ****s sake.

Too many instances of this team goofing off instead of focusing on winning football.... This team can't afford to think they can just show up and win football games.

We've seen a team that was all business, all the time.

I much prefer the laid back mentality, as long as players still put in work the majority of the time.

Have you ever played football? if you have you would know that stuff like this breaks up the monotony of practice and actually increases morale....

The reporter was Inez Sainz? She's the same moron who fake-proposed to Tom Brady in an interview during media week before the SB against the Giants and she's known for being somewhat of a goofball. Eff her (which I would).

I most certainly agree. I just want to see them win football games. Even Rex said there is a difference between having fun and acting like a Jackass. Hopefully this was the former. Go Jets...

So a TV network hires her strictly for sex appeal, but the players are expected to treat her as if she's not a piece of meat. Got it.

Florio is the biggest Jets hating Jackass in the media, worse than Cimini, worse than Hubbuch, worse than all of them.

I want to punch that punk in the face if I ever had the chance to.
