Was right in the middle when it happened.

Had to walk 2 miles to the train because the bus couldnt go anywhere. Lots of others people will have it worse. Forest Hills/Flushing area looked like a warzone.

My bro called from Bayside, said every street is blocked with trees.

Saw a shot on CHannel 4 of a funnel cloud by the Statue of Liberty.

My wife is at Local on 33rd St. across the street from Penn Station. The baby is asleep and I'm looking forward to some quiet for a while. :D

    drove past it...

i was on Jamaica Avenue in the 200's when it passed over me...the Clearview Expressway was a mess an hour ago when i drove through- huge branches all over the road and some very large trees uprooted...

besides the massive rain it was one incredible lightining show...

Normally, I would enjoy it too, but I seriously have no idea how she is getting home.

I'd drive in, but all the roads are fvcked with downed trees.

Plus, Ive got two kids here.

She's with a work friend and my cousin and they're thinking of taking the F, J or Z to Jamaica. Said the E is messed up.

32, Might I suggest that she books a room some where safe and hunkers down while things become manageable.

    Good luck friend.

    Hope everyone gets home safely!

I never heard about tornadoes during all the years I lived in the northeast. Thought it was really strange seeing tornado evacuation rooms when I moved here. Tornadoes are really scary because they happen so fast--no warning.

    Good luck and stay safe!

Yeah the J or Z isnt really close by...and the thing is, so many of the trains that would normally go to Jamaica are still in the city.. stranded....so what trains are leaving Jamaica for LI?

    :dunno:

LIRR website says very limited eastbound trains from Jamaica. Wife isn't answering so I'm guessing she's on subway. I think I'm going to wind up picking her up anywhere she can get a train.

This is why I am so glad I don't commute into the city anymore.

The subway to Jamaica is a loooooong ride so I'm sure I'll have plenty of quiet before I'm regaled with storm stories. And she's been in that friggin bar for over two hours now so those stories might be louder than normal.

I hope everyone's OK. Crazy when tornados hit big cities. When one hit downtown ATL a few years back, it took a while to get things working again.

I think it was just a microburst from a super cell that hit us not a tornado.
