Jets to play another announcer-less game: report

The Jets game against the Bengals on Thanksgiving night will be shown again without announcers the following Saturday, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The showing will use "only the words of players and coaches who will be miked up" for the game at New Meadowlands Stadium.

Weve got 15 players and coaches miked during the game, including both coaches and all the coordinators and quarterbacks and middle linebackers, NFL Films president Steve Sabol said in the report. Well have 60 people shooting the game, which is more than we use for a Super Bowl, and then well turn it around in 48 hours and show it to you through the eyes of the players. Its something you wont see anywhere else.

The Jets and Dolphins played a game NBC broadcast live without announcers on Dec. 20, 1980.

I remember that game in 1980. A lot of visuals to replace the announcers.

I wonder if they save money doing this?

Sounds cool. I'll definitely want to check that out. We better win now if I'm gonna be watching it twice.

Don't know how I feel about that. watching it live w/out commentary is one thing, but on TV? I admit that I hate 97% of what most commentators babble out, but just seems . . . . different. Crazy enough that it JUST might work.

Question: Is it for BOTH Radio and TV commentary, or just muting it for TV?

The game on TV will have announcers

The re-airing of the game on Saturday on NFL Network will have the "announcer-less" broadcast

    aaaaaaahhhhh, Thank you Sir.

Us NFL-Channel deprived fans in the city seem to be out of the loop with these things.

For those who recall the '80 game where they previously did it, how was it? Just a lot of bleeps and smashing plastic sounds?

That seems like it could be a pretty cool experience. I'll set the DVR for that one, for sure.

I remember not liking watching the telecast without announcers. Thus , I'm very happy the live telecast will have the talking heads doing their thing.

this week's game vs the Texans will also be announcer-less.... because with Gumballs and Dumbdorf, the absolute worst pairing of all, you have to watch the thing with the mute button turned on or you'll be forced to spend the whole game vomiting.

fortunately it's not the Pats game because Dumbdorfs mancrush on "Tom and Bill" is beyond disgusting

Not many blind folks watch TV...for them, they can use the radio :O

I have a friend that is sportswriter, who also happens to be blind. The man knows more about baseball than anyone I have ever met.

Even when he goes to games, he listens to the ballgame on the radio, as the announcers there are more descriptive of the game and what is happening. Too many TV announcers use the video as a crutch, saying, "Watch this" or "Did you see that?"

From what I remember, there was more crowd noise than anything else. Remember, this was thirty years ago. Most all you heard back then was announcers and crowd noise with just a little of what was generated on the field.
