Not that anyone cares, but Paris has become a nightmare. The current mayor has totally transformed the city:
gigantic sidewalks which pick away at existing lanes
Tramway
Bus lanes which used to be shared with cars are now exclusively used by buses
No more parking spots for delivery trucks, so they stop in the middle of the road

The underlying idea of all these projects is to discourage people from having a friggin car and take public transportation.

I still dream of owning a 60s/70s-era Cinquecento. Don't care that I'll get squashed like a bug in an accident.

Does anyone driving realistically expect to get through midtown via 34th Street even presently? That's a rookie/tourist mistake.

Why not take out a street that is essentially a mission in folly iffin you're trying to get across town? Granted there will be handful of drivers who will need to be specifically on 34th street and its immediate environs. However, you have to think about the public at large. Most rely on walking and the bus. Both of those methods are currently severely "hampured" on 34th street.

And by the way, I own a car and live in Brooklyn. Presently, especially in midtown, everyone loses; pedestrians, buses and car drivers. You have to think about how to improve things for the most amount of people. Sadly, that usually puts car drivers to the way side.

Totally agree. They are now like Über-Americans; just the consummate, crass consumers of everything we ever created.

I spent a Summer in Italy back in the 70s. Kids could not understand my jeans, tie dyed hippie gear, or my basketball sneakers.

If you want to clear up the traffic in Manhattan just make truck deliveries allowed only during off hours.

I was in Germany about 25 years ago, bought some really cool plaid pants...my wife (girlfriend at the time) thought they looked dooshy on me. I tried to explain all the young eurodudes were wearing them, to no avail.
