    Alternative to Microsoft Office?

Is there an alternative to Microsoft Office that will read excel and word files? Microsoft has
jumped the shark on their office software and there is no way I am going to pay a yearly
subscription fee to use their crappy software or buy their alternative forever locked to one
    computer.

I have been forced to upgrade from Vista and I am facing the same problem,. Some Geek told me Google has web based programs for free with cloud storage? I do need a solution.

    Oh for sure: http://www.libreoffice.org

Have a look - and it's free. I work exclusively on Macs but when I need to deal with Msoft docs I use Libre. Enjoy.

They also have online, web versions of their software which are 100% free, if you have a register an account.
If all you need it for is the occasion Word and Excel file, it fits the bill for our house -

    Thanks,

Yeah I saw that, and it might have done the trick as my usage isn't that high. My paranoid distrust of putting
out my personal spreadsheet information on the web put the kibosh to that.

This is a great App. It also allows for multiple people to edit the same doc/spreadsheet when shared from a network drive. Great for collaborating with coworkers.
