Aaron Maybin's career revive in Rex Ryan's defensive system?

The Jets are one of the teams that have expressed interest in free agent DE/OLB Aaron Maybin, a person with knowledge of the communication between the sides confirmed. That person requested anonymity because the team has not commented on its interest level.

Maybin, the No. 11 overall pick by the Bills in 2009, was waived by the team Monday. Yahoo! Sports first reported Chicago, San Francisco, Denver, Indianapolis and the Jets have expressed interest.

Maybin is expected to make a decision within 24 hours, the person said.

Maybin was drafted out of Penn State as a pass-rush specialist, but he has not yet recorded a sack in his professional career.

At the time the team let him go, Buffalo GM Buddy Nix said his lack of size and strength did not fit in the team's defensive system.

ďI donít know what scheme he fits at that size, unless youíre a strong safety or something," Nix said, per the team's official web site. "He says itís his metabolism and maybe thatís what it is, but he couldnít hold weight. He was 250 when we saw him at the combine and he was 228 this fall. Now he goes up and down some, but not very high.Ē

    Maybin cleared waivers today.

WTF? He can't play Outside linebacker at 230 pounds.

He sucks. Whatever doesn't hurt to try. Too small for our scheme and too slow for any other position if we try to move him somewhere.

Also, just when we thought we got rid of the Gholston juju...

Manish just tweeted that the jets have extended a 1 year offer to him....if its a small amount, it may be worth a shot, its not like we have any great pash rushers on this team....stop your *****ing people....

a one year offer to Aaron Mabin is way too high

probably OK though, for Aaron Maybin

Are they hoping that this guy is Von Miller extremely lite? This should be interesting.

Besides the Rex appeal, you gotta think were a frontrunner solely so maybin can stick it to buffalo 2x / year.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We get rid of Gholston and then bring in Ghost-lite?

We should have signed Merriman last year. Looked like he was regaining his beastly form in that first preseason game.

Why would he be mad? He robbed them

Anyway it's worth a shot. Maybe our scheme will work better for him. Doubt it though.

Would be a great signing. Low cost, high upside.

Pretty much could redshirt him a year like we did with so many others recently(Turner, Gilbert, dixon etc) Then see what we have next year. We all our OLB situation is pretty poor

I'd imagine the offer is for as low as possible.
wait didnt we just cut a guy just like him?
Like Gholston in that he was terrible, yes. Maybin is an undersized speed guy though. Ghost only had a bullrush.

    LOL

What would you guys tell Bears fans who most certainly were saying "high upside, worth a shot, whats the worse that could happen"?

You would laugh in their motherfrucking faces.

He is not worth a shot.

For all the Gholston comparisons, nobody would have cared about him if he was on a 1 year, low salary type of contract and didn't cost us a draft pick. At that point it's no-risk. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, oh well.

If anything, this is textbook Tannenbaum. Take a shot on a once highly touted kid who hadn't quite fit in with his old team for whatever reason but might have some potential if you take the time to develop him. Did it with Patrick Turner, Jarron Gilbert, Cody Brown, ect. Or a couple years back, you could have said the same about some guy named Wayne Hunter.
