You might like the Velvet Underground stuff better. It's really edgy and dark. Classic tunes (I'd say "hits") written by Lou Reed include, "Heroin", "White Light/White Heat", "Sweet Jane", and "Rock & Roll".

Rock 'n' Roll Animal, a live album from 1974 has blistering versions of these songs. IMO, one of the top five live rock records ever made. Twin guitar attack of Hunter and Wagner scorch that album.

Arguably, the greatest song into ever. Listen to the two guitarists build into a frenzy, then leads in the actual song.

Is it wrong I like Cowboy Junkies version better?

Kind of interesting that you are a guitarist and I am a drummer. When you compare the two versions, the version I like is more rhythm driven. I wonder if that plays out across the rest of our music preferences?

Since we both like The Who- favorite album? For me it's Quadrophenia.

You and me, we never talk music again. ;)

I have spent days listening to Quadrophenia and its sonic intricacies. I was 16 years-old when that brilliant record was released, and already a Who fanatic. As a bass player at the time, it was a huge deal for me when i mastered solo and insane Entwistle fills of "The Real Me" and "The Punk and the Godfather". Now, I love playing acoustic guitar on "Sea and Sand" and a ton of other numbers from the album.

That said, I think Who's Next is their masterwork.

Very cool, part of what made me jealous of guitar/piano players, the ability to play something for yourself and others at the same time. As a drummer, I could hear the rhythm, vocals, guitars all in my head whilst playing, but to the casual observer, it was just beats.

I would throw in Who Are You. Something about songs like Sister Disco and 905 just grab me, dunno why.
Here is a first listen to the new collaboration.

Almost what you would expect, Lou talking and James screaming.
This small taste is not very good. Like Brussel Sprouts, but worse.

That record was the death knell for me. Never bought another Who album after Who Are You, especially as it's Keith's last work. No disrespect, but I hate nearly all the tunes on that record.

I think this is a great song off that album...btw it segues terrifically into Evil Ways by Santana (that's the way I had it on a cassette a thousand years ago :D)

Yeah, the song is okay. I just did not like the sound and direction Townshend had adopted on the record. It was miles away from what attracted me to them in the first place. I've liked very few original Who songs since.

LOL, yes, but I wasn't very good. Average on a good day. Had a set of CB700s, Paistes and Remo roto-toms. Now my dad could play. He had a beautiful old set of pearl Slingerlands. He wound up getting rid of them years before I took any interest.

Haha, I hear you. Definitely went a bit overboard with the synths/auto-tune sound.

Who Are You contains the greatest Who song ever written.

Meh. None of us...or that's what I'm always told, lol. :P

I always think I suck...but then I hear myself and I think, not too shabby for the oldest guy on the set with 2 broken wrists. TG I never broke my foot or else I'd never be able to make up for my substandard hi hat with chest ripping double bass....

It's.....not good.

Whew...wow...I....what? That's a riff, not a song. Where are the changes? If we are to base the album on this tune, it's a complete disaster of epic proportion.

Best comments, stolen from a Metallica Forum:
1) One stock Sabbathy riff
2) A pinch of horrible drumming that goes CRACH CRASH CRASH
3) Lou Reed
4) 1 table

A St. Anger 2 is made.

I AM A TABLE!!!111 I AM A TABLE!!1

It reminds me of several things. The first thing is one of those little toys that they had back in the day. You pulled the handle and it goes "This is a dog... RUFF RUFF!"

The other thing would be akin to a bunch of aging musicians suffering from dementia.

Greg: "James... You're in the studio making an album. Lou is here... So is the rest of the band."
James: "I AM A TABLE!"
Greg: "No, James.... You're a person. In a studio. Writing a new album."
James: "TABLE!"
Greg: ......"Guys? What are we going to do. He's obviously hit his head and thinks he's a table."
*band shrugs*
James: "I AM I AM I AM I AM I AM I AM-AHHHH!!"
Lou: "**** it, Press record."
Greg: "Fine. Can't be worse than St. Anger."

It does seem kinda weird, though. When he first starts singing, he says he's the root, progress, aggressor and tablet.

Later on he's the view and all of the previous things, except for the tablet. Instead, he's the table.

I don't get it.
