What, I thought this was a playoff prediction thread. Not trolling like you in the Reyes thread, Brother Green.

I really feel uneasy about the matchup. Was hoping we'd get the Rangers.

But that's how it should be - the playoffs shouldn't be easy. I have to say I do feel a better feeling about this team than last year's coming in or even how I felt about this current team as late as June/July. They really showed a lot in the 2nd half. The regulars showed a lot more late in the season and overall they seem pretty driven to get 28.

Everyone is talking about Verlander-Sabathia, which will undoubtedly be epic. But just as interesting to me is the matchup of the #2's. Fister has been outstanding for them - if he's for real, we could be in trouble. Nova too has been great - I'm anxious to see how he performs on the big stage. The kid has guts - should be fun to watch.

I'm with JP, I was hoping for the Rangers.

I think the Tigers are the best team in the AL. This is a bad matchup for the Yankees. I don't think the Yanks can hit their pitching and the Yanks pitching won't do enough to keep them down. This is last year's ALCS all over again.

Earnie is just trolling, but I agree with him. Tigers in 4.

BUT (), tonight's game is huge. If the Yanks can some how beat Verlander then all bets are off.

I just have a bad feeling about this. Their best is better than our best and that's scary.

We match up better vs the Rangers because our lineup hits LHP better. Swisher, Teixeira, and Jeter are great vs LHP.

Nick Swisher vs LHP this season.
    .327 BA, .442 OBP, .958 OPS
    RHP
    .232 BA, .343 OBP, .763 OPS

    Mark Teixeira vs LHP
    .302 BA, .380 OBP, .967 OPS
    RHP
    .223 BA, .323 OBP, .773 OPS

    Derek Jeter vs LHP
    .349 BA, .423 OBP, .946 OPS
    RHP
    .277 BA, .329 OBP, .667 OPS

Justin Verlander is the AL Cy young winner.
    24-5, 0.92 WHIP, 2.40 ERA, 250 SO 57 BB

Doug Fister is a great #2.
    11-13, 1.06 WHIP, 2.83 ERA, 146 SO 37 BB

We need Sabathia to pitch GREAT tonight, shutdown the Tigers lineup and hope we can get something off of Verlander at Yankee stadium. If we can win these games at home, I think we will win the series.

Max Scherzer isn't so great, but he is tough at their pitcher park since he gives up HRs.

Can Swisher and Teixeira finally do something in the playoffs please? Teixeira has sucked this season but he can redeem himself with a monster playoffs, but I doubt he will do anything.

As long as the Yanks' pitchers don't allow Cabrera or Martinez (to a much lesser extent) to beat them, they should be able to win this series. Of course, the bats need to show up a little too, and I'd much rather see Montero, who most likely won't even see any action (can you really see Girardi pinch hitting him for Posada?), and JoPo

I have no faith in Tex and Swisher to perform in the postseason. They sucked even when the Yanks won the WS.

If the Yanks need them to win this series then they're toast.

SD, I agree with you about Montero vs. Posada. Posada has never been a good postseason performer to begin with AND his skills have greatly diminished.

I foresee a lot of testy postgame interviews with Girardi this series.

Don't have a much a feel on this one, the Yankees have overcome mediocre pitching all season with their bats, and Garcia and Nove (to a lesser extent) scare me. Nova battles but he is still untested in the postseason.

Swisher and Tex have been miserable in the postseason and I do not expect that to change. Couple that with Grandy struggling the end of the year and who knows what to expect from AROD. Realistically you cannot expect much from him. I think the Tigers will win this series (just a hunch) but this Yankee team has been a pleasant surprise all year so I am hoping for more of the same.

Posada is the starting DH for all three games.

Nothing I love more than double plays to kill rallies in the playoffs. Girardi

David Robertson and Rafael Soriano....two huge keys in my opinion. We need these guys to continue to be great. Lights out from them.

Tonight's game like most other Game 1's will be excruciating....we will miss many opportunities to score but I think we pull it out late like always!!

There's just too many postseason no-shows in the Yankee lineup for me to think other than they'll lose this series
