    'Mayhem' Maybin makes impact

Is Aaron Maybin starting to shed the dreaded 'bust' label?

It's a small sample size, but Maybin has made an impact so far with the Jets. And that continued on Monday night.

The former first-round pick sacked Miami quarterback Matt Moore and forced him to fumble in the fourth quarter of the Jets' 24-6 win over Miami. He also knocked the ball out of Reggie Bush's hands earlier in the game.

"He's self-proclaimed 'Mayhem,' and I think it's a pretty good nickname for that kid. I said to the team, 'The crazy guy played pretty good for us,' " Rex Ryan said after the game.

Overall, Maybin has two sacks and three forced fumbles in three games with the Jets.

Maybin, the 11th overall pick in 2009, didn't record a sack in 27 career games with the Bills. He also never started, drawing the ire of fans and media. He hit rock bottom last season, when he was declared inactive for five straight games.

Could things be turning around for Maybin with the Jets?

"I love the way he runs all over the place," Ryan said. "He has a relentless motor and he's always thinking about getting those takeaways... Eventually, he's going to learn our whole defense and that's really going to be exciting."

RUNNING GAME GETS STUCK: Don't let the Jets' final rushing numbers mislead you.

The Jets finished with 104 yards on the ground, but their running game was stuck in neutral for most of the night.

They had just 18 yards on 10 carries in the first half, with five of those coming courtesy of a Mark Sanchez touchdown run.

Shonne Green had just 34 yards through three quarters.

McKNIGHT'S ALRIGHT: Joe McKnight caught the first two passes of his NFL career and returned the first kickoff he got his hands on for 31 yards against Miami.

"He can do a lot of things, and we're starting to see that now," Rex Ryan said. "He made a couple of great catches. He's a match-up nightmare."

JASON RETURNS: Jason Taylor said there wasn't an added significance to his return to MetLife Stadium on Monday. It was just another loss for the Dolphins.

"It doesn't matter who the opponent is, they are all tough to swallow," said Taylor, who assisted on a tackle.

Sometimes change is good. Especially in this case. The word bust is thrown around too easily. The kid is only 23 and man he is all over the place. Imagine 1 year in this defense under his belt? Who knows what he can do. Gholston never had that motor and that is why he is out of football

    I love The Maybin

I love Maybin, and was ecstatic about getting him in the first place. It seems like every time he's on the screen in green and white (pre and reg season), he's getting a sack or forcing a fumble.

And why again did we cut him and not have him on our team for the 1st 3 weeks?

From what I understand he ran into bad luck if Turner never gets hurt, he makes the team. The Jets held out hope he was going to come back this year it didn't Work. Then it was a numbers crunch. So he got cut in the end it worked out great for thE Jets.

Just goes to show maybe the guys in the stands are right once in a while. Even broken clocks are right twice a day.

Maybin brings excitement to the D.

I may be alone, but whenever I see 51 on the field on 3rd & long I perk up, wondering what he's going to do. It's fun watching him run around like a crazy man.

    motor hips!

This guy has no off button. What I like is that he will start to cause Qb's to move around if they know he is comin, and he will assist in other player sacks because of that! Gotta love his enthusiasm!!!!!

when Maybin learns the entire defense he will have more opportunities to get on the field. The guy is a great athlete.

since we are talking about him, there's alot of comments that are talking about him putting on weight. even tho his frame can clearly support that, would he be as fast??

it sounds crazy as all 3-4 defenses seek out bulk... but Maybin might be more dangerous as a 235 pass rush specialist than a 255 do it all 3-4 OLB.

One thing is for sure in regards to Maybin, unlike Gholston, he not only wants to win, but he also loves to play the game of football. Just watch this interview.

He's as raw as Sanchez. Came into the league in 2009 after only playing one year of college ball. We just landed the 11th pick of the 2009 draft. What a steal. I can't remember the last time I've seen a Jets OLB as fast as Maybin...He also plays with a motor that's 2nd to none. You just know this is killing Buffalo fans. Imagine if we seen Gholston put up sack after sack right after leaving the Jets? It would hurt this fan base.
