Mass transportation is the way to go. MetroNorth in, subways/walking. MetroNorth out.

Be warned: from tree lighting to New Year's Day, the area around the tree and skating rink is shoulder to shoulder by the thousands.

Can you take the Path to 33rd and 6th?

You can grab uptown trains from there or Penn.

Thats if you are not a DOOSH.

Fish, if you have an iphone, there is an app called itrans NYC. It's a subway app that will give you directions from your current location to where you want to go.

I know android has one too, i just don't know the name of the one the wife has.

When I drive in NY I feel there's less traffic taking the Holland Tunnel then to get to midtown I take the Westside Highway.

But if you'd rather avoid driving all together I'd suggest taking NJ Transit to Penn it's like a 20 min ride and then the cab to the tree won't be too much i'd say between 8-12 maybe
