Perception is reality, but Sanchez has NOT regressed

I don't even understand why the media has been throwing the word "regressed" around.

Sanchez is up in EVERY category. He has 18 touchdowns already compared to 17 total last year, with 5 GAMES TO GO!

2nd in total red zone offense.

Every stat up! They aren't great all the time, but they were not GOOD last year, so how is that regression?

The rest of the team has regressed. Literally, measurably, for real.

Stats are not always the reality. Sanchez has regressed in categories that can't really be quantified with stats: decision making, footwork, pocket presence, going through his progressions, and eye discipline.

He's in a slump, hopefully he digs himself out sooner rather than later.

Your 'perception' (as the OP says) is that he has regressed in areas such as 'decision making'. That is measured by statistics such as TD's and INT's. They show he hasn't regressed. What kind of a 'slump' is he in?

If you watch the games ... He has definitely regressed. His pocket awareness is bad .. Happy feet are back ... How many completions over 40 yards ? 1 ... Maybe 2? How many sacks for holding onto the ball to long?

Regressed i say ... And I say it again .... Regressed.

Decision making is partially measured by TD's and INT's. Most throws are neither.

His slump is being driven by poor technique and a lack of confidence.

First off, this team has 5 games left.

I don't think its truly clear cut whether Sanchez has progressed or regressed until the end of the season.

What is frustrating about this offense is slow starts and inconsistency?

I think the slow starts are really the biggest thing that needs to change because you always put yourself in a hole right from the start.

is he in a slump tho?

He just surpassed his career high in touchdowns, both in a single game with 4 and on the regular season with 18. his completion % is 2 points higher than last year.

agree with original poster Sanchez is not regressing.

Let's hope he continues this regression next year. That will produce some gaudy numbers

He's playing at a lower level than he did three quarters of the way through last season through the first quarter of this season. If your eyes don't tell you the same thing, then we simply don't see football the same way.

I know stats are not the tell all but to have a higher comp%.....Higher TD% rate 4.8......18 TDS....11 INT.....Ranked #2 in Red Zone TD% up from 28th last year.....Slightly higher INT...2.6 last year...2.9 this year....Not the INT machine many say...

All the while the rushing game has been worse, O-line at times awful and not nearly as good as in the past and a couple of new receivers....I do agree his pocket presence lately has regressed but i do not see regression overall...

8th in the league in TD passes.....If you want to see regression, look at wonderkin Josh Freeman....

When was the last time Sanchez hit a receiver on a 15 yard out in stride this year. ... Never ? More often than not his passes are Ill timed and behind the receiver.

I think perception is the real key here.

Not only has he not regressed, he clearly has PROgressed.

I think the issue with some of the more impatient fans here is that they were all expecting a quantum leap forward this year--you know, year 3 when all QBs become great--for him to be at a 65% completion and for 25+ TDs and 10 or less INTs for the entire year.

So compared to the statz some here were EXPECTING, he has clearly regressed.

He is better in every single individual statistical category then he has been over the last 2 years, but for some that is not enough.

So to them he has "regressed".

Foolishness IMHO. Especially considering how sh*tty his offensive line has been and how little protection he's had all year.

And when you look at all the other young stud up-and-coming QBs, he's actually doing better--marginally--by comparison. Flacco, Freeman, Ryan, Bradford all doing actually worse than past years (other than Stafford, but apparently it's okay for him to throw 3 INTs in a game every now and again).

    Yeah, worse.

    THAT'S regression.

Regressed in terms of CONSISTENCY. Each year you expect a young QB to become more consistent. This year Sanchez has been a roller coaster. He has helped win games and he has completely taken them out of games.

They need to find a way to get off to a fast start in the remaining games.

Never mind TDs and Red Zone efficiency, his body language has been an abomination this year.
